"Adam.." May's voice echoed through the earpiece. Her tone was off, she only used that tone when she was about to give an order she knew he wouldn't follow.
"May, where are you over? I thought you would be taking hold in the control room, and you didn't say over- ov".
"She has his blood in her. It's barely a drop, but the infection is there...."
"NO! She's, it's just..." But Adam couldn't deny it. The dim sting of the infection hit his nose when he took her hand. He was hoping he was wrong. Thought that he just imagined it as she was all too enticing and overwhelming.
"You know what is required," May said.
"You have to be kidding me! She obviously hasn't turned! She's a witch, she has been blessed by the earth mother! And it happened years ago, you were there! We were there!" He was loud, a bit too loud. But he didn't care.
"We can't assume anything Adam! It's not a risk we can take." May sounded like she was going to break into tears. Adam had never heard her like this.
"She needs to be bloodless by morning." The line cut off. Adam crushed the rail under his grip. She can't be serious. This is insane. Fuck her, fuck all of them. He thought as he took the earpiece out and crushed it in his hand, throwing the broken pieces into the ocean. He turned around to see Elodie, swaying gently to the music while watching the orchestra play.
They played a gentle melody as the yacht started up and headed out to sea. He could feel the speed of the picking up as it left the bay. Most of the guests including the band had made their way to look over the side of the yacht. Watching how fast they sped away from the shore. The wind rushed along the deck, many of the women held down their dresses and their hair, in attempt to save from the harsh wind. Adam's mischievous grin returned to him for a brief second as he turned to look for Elodie to see if she was doing the same thing, and how she would even manage to do that in that tight dress. He quickly found her again, she wasn't on the same side as the other guests she was on the other side of the yacht. She was looking down the side of the yacht, most likely looking at the waves hitting the side of yacht as it appeared to graze the top of the water. The speed was really picking up now, the waves were calm so it was a mostly smooth ride with the occasional bump. The wind, though as expected, was quiet strong whipping his clothes and his hair back. "What the.." Adam whispered. Elodie's dress and hair weren't affected by the wind at all. Her dress and hair stayed in perfect place. Adam quickly walked over to her. She was still looking down the side of the yacht.
He got close to her ear as he knew she wouldn't be able to hear him over the wind. He noticed when he got close to her the wind stopped on parts of him that should still be hit by the wind but it wasn't.
"What are you doing, Miss Witch?"
"It's not that obvious, is it? I Just don't want my hair to be messed up. The stylist was so good and nice."
"Ugh, really? Get inside before you start freaking out the other guests."
"I thought I saw someone down there." She pointed down the side of the ship to the water. "Or an alligator?"
"An alligator? You saw an alligator.. In Los Angeles, in the North Pacific Ocean? You understand how stupid that sounds, don't you?"
"Well I thought it was a person at first but it was green and sort of scaly. It gave me a bad feeling", She responded.
"Just get inside." Adam rolled his eyes. The description sort of sounds like a siren, human like scaly green, or blueish creatures, Adam thought. But surely it wasn't. They wouldn't be getting involved with the Krsnk. They never got involved with anything that didn't affect them directly. He followed after Elodie. Inside the yacht was a large dining type room with a hard wooden walls and floor to ceiling windows overlooking the black ocean and the city light of Los Angeles slowly disappearing as they headed further and further out to sea.
The guests were congregating around a slightly raised platform towards the back of the room. Some of them had paddles for the auction that was starting soon. He watched Elodie, walk over to a waiter and get another glass of champagne. I hope she knows how to hold her drink or this is going to be a more difficult night than I anticipated. Adam thought about how he was going to navigate this evening. He knew May would take out Elodie as soon as they came back to shore. That wasn't going to happen. He knew she had left him on this yacht alone, despite that not being the original plan. As she wanted to give him the opportunity to complete the mission as directed. They both knew very well that Adam would hardly ever pull the trigger on a human that had not yet turned. This circumstance was ridiculous. She hadn't turned, nor even started the process. The blood in her system was barely a drop. Yes, she was a witch and it was unheard of a witch ever surviving the vampire infection. The circumstances were completely different to a normal vampire victim, there was no need to follow the same regulation process in terms of the outcome. But if Elodie were to die, her death would definitely draw out Lance for revenge, which is what the Krsnk was after. He would mostly be quite enraged and throw wind to the precautions he had been using to evade us for so long. No matter.
It is not a good enough reason to take her life. She will be waiting for us at the docks, where we are scheduled to port in a few hours. If I remove the tracking beacons and change our course, with a bit of persuasion to the captain and staff. I can get Elodie off and to the airport before anyone knows otherwise. She will have to start again, but she is more than capable. She has done it before.
Adam approached Elodie once again. Her scent was almost undisguisable from the champagne that was being passed around the room. O how he just wanted a sip, not from the flute though, his eyes move to Elodie's neck once more before he quickly turned his back and took another swig of his flask. He was running low on that too. "There are some safety measures I am going to check on around the yacht as we head out. I shouldn't be too long," He said.
"No problem, would you like me to bid on the yacht for you?" She smiled. Adam rolled his eyes and shock his head. If she had any idea what kind of danger she was in right now, she was doing a phenomenal job of hiding it. This night was going to be incredibly difficult in so many more ways than one.
