Peridot's hand hovered over the control panel, her entire body trembling. Lapis stood silently, her gaze locked on the green Gem, feeling the weight of this moment. She could see the internal war raging within Peridot—the Gem's loyalty to Homeworld colliding with the terrifying realization that everything she had believed in was built on a lie. And now, here she was, standing at the edge of the precipice, ready to make a choice that would change everything.
"Peridot," Lapis said softly, her voice cutting through the silence. "It's okay. You're not alone in this."
Peridot's eyes flickered, her lips pressed into a tight line. "It doesn't feel that way," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I've spent my entire existence believing that Homeworld was right. That the Diamonds were infallible. And now... now I don't know what's real anymore."
Lapis stepped closer to the force field, her eyes soft with understanding. "I know what that feels like. To have everything you've ever known ripped away. It's terrifying, but it's also freeing. You don't have to be a prisoner to them anymore. You can choose your own path."
Peridot's breath hitched, and her hand clenched into a fist as she stared down at the control panel. Her mind raced, her thoughts a chaotic whirlwind of fear and uncertainty. She had never questioned her loyalty to Homeworld before, never doubted the authority of the Diamonds. But now, after everything she had seen—Jasper's cruelty, the casual disregard for life—she couldn't ignore the gnawing doubt that had taken root inside her.
With a deep breath, Peridot pressed the button. The force field flickered for a moment before disappearing entirely, leaving Lapis standing in the open.
Lapis took a cautious step forward, her eyes never leaving Peridot's. "You did it."
Peridot swallowed hard, her hands shaking as she clutched her tablet to her chest. "I don't know if this is the right choice," she whispered, her voice trembling. "But I can't stay here anymore."
Lapis reached out, gently placing her hand on Peridot's shoulder. "You're not alone. We'll figure this out together."
For a moment, Peridot didn't move. She stood frozen, her mind reeling from the enormity of what she had just done. But then, slowly, she nodded. "Okay. Let's go."
