CHAPTER 5: The Unforgiving Guard

But everything changed the day Jasper arrived.

Jasper was larger than life, her towering figure casting a shadow over the cold, metallic walls of the prison. Where Peridot was precise and methodical, Jasper was ruthless and aggressive. She marched into the prison like she owned it, her fiery eyes scanning every corner, every prisoner, with disdain.

When she stopped in front of Lapis' cell, a sneer twisted her lips. "Well, well, what do we have here? A traitor hiding behind these walls. How pathetic."

Lapis met her gaze with steely resolve, though her heart pounded in her chest. Jasper was a force of nature, and she knew better than to show weakness in front of her.

Before Lapis could reply, Peridot stepped in. "Jasper, this prisoner is under my jurisdiction. There's no need for your... involvement."

Jasper raised an eyebrow, glancing down at Peridot with amusement. "Oh really? You're in charge here, huh? I don't think so, Peridot. I'll be watching her from now on."

Lapis shot a glance at Peridot, seeing the tension ripple through her small frame. Something unspoken passed between them, but before either could act, Jasper gave a cruel smirk and marched off.

As soon as she was gone, Peridot turned to Lapis, her voice uncharacteristically sharp. "Don't do anything reckless."

Lapis frowned. "And why do you care?"

Peridot's expression softened just slightly, the visor hiding her eyes but not the worry in her tone. "Because if you try something now, you won't be facing me anymore."
