Day 6

Marjorie came around every day and looked after Charlotte. She encouraged her to eat, but also to go outside to get some exercise. She didn't want the brunette to fall into a deep hole and never come out. In return, the manager bit her tongue and didn't speak badly about Mia. Even though it was so difficult for her.

Charlotte had gone to her ex-husband today to see her children. It distracted her to see her girls. Hearing what they were learning at school and just spending time with them.

In the time Charlotte was away, Marjorie cleaned the house for her. She had just finished and sat down in the living room with a coffee when an idea popped into her head.

It would certainly do Charlotte more good to get out of the house tonight than to sit here alone on a Saturday, especially as Mia had disappeared a week ago today. So Marjorie decided to get Autumn and Sorscha on board to go to the Kings Club together tonight.

Charlotte didn't know about her luck yet, she was still spending time with her children. She was just happy to be here to distract herself. Thomas asked her if she would like the girls for a few days, but Charlotte declined. She didn't feel ready yet and didn't want her children to worry.

When Charlotte opened the door to her house, Marjorie was already waiting for her in the hallway. Before the brunette could say anything, Marjorie had already grabbed her by the arm.

"We're going to the pub tonight. Autumn and Sorscha are coming too."

" Marjorie, I don't know, if I want to..."

" No, you do! It will do you good! So get ready!"

Charlotte took a deep breath, Marjorie had already gotten out of the car. Autumn and Sorscha were both already standing in front of the entrance. The brunette pulled down the sun visor and looked in the mirror. Even with all the make-up, it was clear that she wasn't feeling well.

"Ok!" Marjorie clapped her hands together. "Ladies, we have to make a nice evening for Charlotte. So distract her and don't talk about you know who."

Sorscha and Autumn exchanged a look. They both knew roughly what was going on.

" Alright... But just for us, do you know anything new about why she did that?" asked Sorscha.

Marjorie just shook her head. She had to restrain herself from cursing. It hurt her so much to see Charlotte like that.

"Typical Mia, if you ask me, she did something like that before when she was still with my brother," Autumn said coldly. "I hoped that she had changed now that she is with Charlotte. But old habits die hard."

"If I did something like that to Clodagh, she would hunt me down or set a bounty on my head. ," Sorscha muttered.

The car door opened behind the group.
"Quiet now!" Marjorie hissed.

Charlotte could feel the worried looks on her, and she hated it. She hated being pitied. She kept stirring her straw in her drink. Her friends talked, but she only listened from time to time. Instead, she glanced around the pub.

Her gaze finally stopped at the bar, where Sara was working behind it. The two of them had been talking from time to time. Sara was completely in her element, smiling and mixing drinks with ease. Nothing seemed to upset her or bring her mood down.

Marjorie nudged Sorscha and pointed inconspicuous at Charlotte. The Irish didn't understand what her manager wanted from her at first.

"Charlie, how are the children?"

Autumn breathed a sigh of annoyance and rolled her eyes. Couldn't she think of anything better.

"Fine," Charlotte replied short without breaking her gaze from Sara.

Autumn had enough. "Charlotte." Her voice was hard, but with a certain compassion to it. "You have to face the truth. Or are you going to wobble yourself in pity for a year and wait by the door for Mia like a puppy? Distract yourself, and if it's with other people, then so be it. After all, isn't that what Mia wanted."

"Autumn!" Marjorie gave her a dirty look.

"It's okay, Marjorie, Autumn's right, in a way. But I won't be able to do it. Thanks for trying to distract me." She took her purse out of her pocket and put £10 on the table to pay for the drink. " I have to go home now."

With that, Charlotte got up and left the pub as quickly as she could. She just wanted to go back home, shut out the world, and crawl back into bed.

Day 10

Charlotte's inner turmoil calmed down a little. She blocked out the painful memories of Mia as best she could.

But that was to change when her presence made itself known with full force. It was a normal morning, and Charlotte was actually on her way to work. She wanted some normality again, all this time alone at home with her thoughts wasn't doing her any good.

As she stepped out of the door, the postman was walking up the driveway to her house. He had his hand full of letters. When he saw Charlotte, he smiled slightly, and as Charlotte still had time, she took the letters from him.

She went back into the house and looked through the post. Bills, adverts, the usual. But then she noticed a letter without a return address. Her address was written in handwriting, Charlotte knew very well. She immediately thought the ground had been pulled out from under her feet.

She stared at the plain white envelope until she finally plucked up the courage to open it.

Hello Sweetheart,

I know how difficult this time must be for you. I'm also sorry that I just left you without any real warning. It hurts me every day not to be by your side. But I just have to do this right now to make things better for us in the future.

I am currently following my father's footsteps. They led me to France. But I lost the trail again there.

I hope you do what I asked you to do and that it gives you some comfort.

I will come home again, Sweetheart.

In love and pain,

Amelia Mae Roberts
