Day 100

"It's nice to meet you outside the pub," Sara said with a slight smile. The two women had met in a café as friends. It had been a long time since they had last slept together. Charlotte had ended it for her own mental health.

Sara was more than sympathetic, she was aware that she was just a distraction. She didn't blame Charlotte. But now the brunette wanted to meet with her to discuss some things.

"Yes, you're right, I'm going to avoid the pub for a while."

Charlotte had finally opened Mia's letter for her own peace of mind. But what she had to read was another stab in her heart.

Sweetheart,

My search has come to an end. I've been in Denmark for a few days now. I was able to find my father in a small village near the German border.

Now I'm here, I've already seen him, but I haven't approached him yet. I wish you were here and could give me some advice on how best to go about it.

I will do everything I can to finally close this chapter and then return back to you.

My heart is crying out for you.

With love and a heavy heart,

Amelia Mae Roberts

Not with a single word had asked Mia how she was doing. No apology. No remorse. Nothing. Charlotte couldn't even be a little happy that Mia had finally found him.

Since then, however, there has been radio silence. No more letters arrived.

Charlotte shook off her thoughts and turned her attention back to Sara. It was time to apologise to her. Even though she knew that Sara probably saw no reason to.

"Well Charlotte, it was nice to see you again and I hope we stay in touch. As friends, of course. But if you wake up one morning and want to have some fun. You know where to find me," Sara winked before getting into her car. Charlotte rolled her eyes playfully.

Charlotte walked out of the meeting with a lighter heart. She now had to hurry a little to get to work on time. She found her love for it again. Her friends also noticed that Charlotte was feeling a little better again.

She was also looking forward to the movie night, she had planned with her children today.

When Charlotte entered the classroom, she was immediately greeted with a smile by Carly and Sorscha. The working day passed quickly. During the break, Charlotte laughed heartily for the first time in a long time, when Winter told her about the last double date with Marjorie and Reece. Marjorie had once again too much wine and had started a spontaneous karaoke party. This was nothing new in itself, but what was unusual and what made Charlotte laugh so much. Was the fact that Autumn had also grabbed the microphone.

Charlotte was glad to have her family and friends around her. It brought her the peace she needed right now. At the moment, she didn't know what she would do when Mia returned. But she still had plenty of time to prepare.

Charlotte put the Popcon on the coffee table. Her daughters had already made themselves comfortable on the sofa.

After two movies, it was time for the girls to go to bed. Charlotte tidied up. Before the brunette wanted to go to bed, she looked through today's post.

Charlotte should have known that Mia would come to haunt her again at some point. But as she held the letter in her hand. Charlotte realised that she didn't care what it said. She didn't want to know.

So she took the unopened letter, the words of which would remain secret forever, and the rest of Mia's letters.

Charlotte lit the match and threw it into the oven. The paper ignited immediately.

Day 180

Today was a special day, there would be a New Year's party at Charlotte's house. The new year had started a week ago, and the staff at Knight Nursery wanted to celebrate it in style. Charlotte had suggested her house for it.

Marjorie and Sorscha helped the brunette put the pizza she had ordered on the table.

Winter and Reece were in the living room playing Just Dance, being filmed by Carly. Autumn had settled down in the kitchen with a glass of wine and was still enjoying the peace and quiet.

Charlotte could say for herself that she was somewhat at peace again. That she was happy again.

Yes, there were bad days when she didn't want to leave her bed and the tears kept flowing. There were days when she cursed all the higher powers and just wanted to scream.

But there were also days like today, when she was at peace and had accepted it. These kinds of days became more and more.

Mia was now only secondary, a problem that Charlotte could not and did not want to deal with at the moment.

The hours passed, and there was a lot of talking, drinking, and dancing. In the end, it was well past midnight when the last people left the house.

Charlotte stood in the kitchen and put the dishes away before going to bed. She had just put away the last glass. When the doorbell rang.

Oh, that must be Marjorie. She'd forgotten her jacket here. Charlotte dried her hands and went to the door.

She opened the door, and everything stopped. Her heart sank to the bottom of her stomach.

"Hello, sweetheart."
