Day 360

"It's good to see you again," the man's voice rang out.

Mia didn't look up, her leg twitched nervously. For the past month, she had been determined to finally get her life back on track. That was why she had gone to therapy.

The point that moved her to do so was when she woke up one morning in an alley. She had got so drunk the night before that she had no memory of the evening.

When she woke up there on the cold floor, among the dirt and rubbish, she knew she had to change something. Otherwise, she would sooner or later find her way to an early grave.

Since then, she has talked about her problems in therapy. It did her good. She got better. But the thing with Charlotte was still a big issue. She finally had to put right. But she didn't know how.

Her therapist kept saying that she should talk to her. But Mia just couldn't bring herself to knock on her door.

"It's been almost a year, Amelia. You have to make a decision now. Talk to Charlotte and try to make up for your mistakes, or let the matter rest."

He was right. It was time to finally do something. She still didn't know exactly how to go about it.

But now she was sitting at home, a blank sheet of paper in front of her. She wanted to write one last letter, put everything she was thinking on paper, and then leave the decision to Charlotte.

Day 365

When Charlotte woke up, she felt safe and warm. She turned on her side and saw the woman next to her. Sara. They weren't in a serious relationship, and neither of them wanted to be. It was casual. A few dates. Nights out together. Long conversations.

Charlotte was happy with that. That was enough for her. No firm commitment, but still someone who was there and for whom she was important.

When Charlotte came into the kitchen to make breakfast. Her eyes fell on the calendar. It had been exactly one year. One year. 365 days without Mia.

She had thought that this year would destroy her, that she wouldn't survive it. But she had made it. She was fine. She was at peace.

With her coffee cup in her hand, she opened her letterbox. Something was waiting for her there that she hadn't expected. A letter from Mia.

When Sara came downstairs, she found Charlotte in the kitchen. She sat staring into the empty space, an unopened letter in front of her.

" Hey... Char, are you ok?"

" Mia..." Charlotte mumbled.

Sara stepped closer and sat down next to her. The brunette sighed softly. " What am I supposed to do, Sara?"

" Read the letter."

Charlotte looked at her in disbelief. Sara couldn't be serious. But the bartender continued.

" Read what she has to say and then let it go, or not. But staying in the dark? It won't be good for you."

Charlotte,

I don't know what to tell you. I'm sorry. Everything I've done to you. It was wrong from the start.

I had my own problems, and I dragged you into them. I thought everything would be fine when I found my father again, but that wasn't the case. I really thought you were waiting for me, but to expect that from you. It was selfish and heartless.

I can only say again that I'm sorry.

Charlotte Victoria, I love you. I didn't really show you, but you were the best thing that happened to me in my life.

I want you to be happy. No matter how.

I would like to talk to you. I'll wait for you at the place where our first date was. At the bench under the weeping willow. If you don't come, I'll accept it and you'll never hear from me again.

love,

Amelia Mae Roberts

Charlotte stared at the words. What should she do now? Should she really go to Mia, or should she finally let go after everything?
