I sat down at the dinner table by Cole and one of his other younger brothers. Katherine made spaghetti and meatballs to which I devoured. It's not every night someone cooks for you.

My dad and Uncle Dean are terrible cooks. So that ruled me out. Hence why I get fast food pretty often. And then my dad forces me to eat salad sometimes to be healthy.

"Don't think I forgot about talking to your parents Stella," Katherine told me and I sigh.

"Well, it's only me and my dad. But I don't think he's in a place with service right now," I tell her, not completely lying. Windigo are in forest grounds where there's no service to call for help.

"Where's your mom?" one of the kids asks with their cute little voice over the noise. Katherine's eyes widen, afraid he said something wrong.

"Um, she's in a better place now," I tell him gently and he only looks confused before shrugging. I send Katherine a reassuring smile, but it's hard not to notice the sympathy on her face.

I think about my mom a lot, but I lost her 4 years ago because of a demon attack. Getting lost in my thoughts, I start picking at the rest of my food, suddenly not hungry.

A hand touches my arm gently making tense up even more. But I relax once my eyes meet Cole's magnetic blue ones. Once again a fake smile appears on my lips but it quickly falls when a scream echoes through the room and then a clash.

Everyone jumps and I hop up ready to fight whatever is the problem when I see Jackie throwing a full grown snake and spaghetti sauce splattered on her nice outfit.

"Rumple!" The younger brother beside me calls out to the snake and runs to get him. I sigh in relief and the girl runs up the stairs completely stressed out. And in turn it stresses their mom out.

The boys laugh about it and don't notice their mom about to freak out. "You guys stop! Stop! Please!" Katherine yells at her kids making the room go quiet. "Look I know it's a bit of an adjustment to have a new person in the house, but Jackie has been through more than any of us could imagine. So I just need you all to understand that."

I frown, wondering what happened to Jackie and why she moved in. "Right. And we're going to treat her with kindness and with respect. Just like you do with everyone else in the world. Understood?" Their dad adds in and I look between everyone wondering if this what a normal family is like. They all silently agree.

My mom was basically single mom and my dad popped in every now and then to check that we are alive and not being hunted. And then he took me in when my mom passed. But even now he's still not around.

Everyone eats more quietly. But I grin funnily at how well they got their kids in line. "What's so funny?" Cole asks but I shrug.

"I've just never seen parents like that before. Kudos to you, Mr. and Mrs. Walter," I grin goofily and the two look at each other bashfully. While the kids look at me like I'm crazy.

"What does your father do, Stella?" Katherine asks me.

"Uh, he's in contracting work but he's also trying to be a writer," I lie and avoid Cole's questioning glance. The two nod. "Yeah he has to travel a lot for the type he does. I don't really understand it though if I'm being honest."

"Oh, and it's just you at home? No siblings," she pries and Mr. Walter gives his wife a look.

"No, but I have my Uncle Castiel who pops in every now and then," I tell them so she's not worried. She's nods and still doesn't look too pleased.

Thankfully her youngest kids start asking for help, distracting her. We finish up eating and Cole gets tasked with feeding Jackie, who didn't come back down.
