After begging to go, my dad let me go on the hunt with them for the weekend. They don't always let me go because of school and because of the fact that we end up getting beat up a lot. And showing up to school with bruises often is not a good look.
Unfortunately this is the only way to gain experience as a hunter. On the job training and hope not to die or become a monster in the end. The trip was about 4 hours away and we are only an hour in.
I spend the time getting in some homework and listening to the rock music that my Uncle Dean constantly has on loud.
By the last hour, I tap my dad's shoulder to get his attention and he turns the music down. "What exactly is this case about?" I ask.
"There's been a string of attacks in town and all of them are similar. Can you guess why?" My dad explains and I think about it.
"I don't know. Drained of blood? Hearts missing?" I guess and he points at the last one.
"Bingo. And that's points to werewolf, right," he asks me and I nod.
"Where was the last one?" I ask, trying to figure out our angle here.
"Outside an ice cream shop," Dean answers and I nod. "He was a 25 year old man, had his throat slit and heart missing. I'm going to interview the family and you two are going to ask around the shop."
"Ok. Sounds easy enough. And just to clarify, how do you kill a werewolf?"
"Silver bullet or knife to the heart," my Uncle answers curtly and I nod. My dad gives him a look as if he expected me to be able to go on a hunt without experiencing any casualties.
Granted, I'm not used to killing monsters nor will I ever be. Usually it's only if I absolutely need to. And that only happened twice. The last one was with the vamps. And the first one wasn't something alive. It was a ghost, so I don't think that really counts.
My dad just wants to protect me, but they agreed that the only way I'll truly be safe is if I know about how to survive. Hence why I go on hunts with them.
My phone dings and I look to see a text from a number I don't know. But judging by what it says, I have a pretty good idea.
If you wanted me on my back, you could've just asked.
My cheeks heat up at the text that was clearly from Cole. What do I even say to that? Something I'm not good at is flirting over a text.
I thought you'd like it if I made the first move, since that's clearly not your specialty.
That's a first
Maybe I should take some lessons from you sometimeI roll my eyes. This guy would sleep with any girl in town. I shouldn't be entertaining it but it's fun to have some normalcy in my life.
In your dreams, lover boy.
I hit send and refrain from mentioning the fact that he's still with Erin. Or at least it seems like it but they are constantly on and off. A part of me just doesn't want to step into that situation. The other part couldn't care less, because if they really liked each other then they wouldn't treat each other like objects.
"Ready?" My dad asks and I nod.
My Uncle drops us off at the crime scene that still has caution tape up and some officers milling about.
"Here, you'll need this. You're an intern for the FBI," my dad tells me while giving me a fake badge. "You're Dana Barret and I'm James Hetfield."
Dana? Ew, that doesn't fit me at all. But that's part of the job I guess. We walk up to the crime scene and under the tape. An officer immediately tries to stop us and tell us to turn around. But we both show our badges and he scrutinizes mine in particular.
