I went to the Lark Cafe for an early morning coffee before class. My dad always says I have too much sugar in my coffee because he likes it black, and I can't argue. But I like it that way.

As I'm leaving the shop, Katherine sees me and waves from a round table. Smiling, I walk up to her. "Hey, Mrs. Walter."

"Please, call me Katherine. How are you sweetie?" She asks as if we didn't just see each other yesterday.

"Not awake. Needed coffee," I say simply and she laughs, even though I wasn't trying to be funny.

"Well, I don't wanna keep you since school starts... now. Oh my! You're going to be late!" She shouts and looks at me with worry. But I just shrug.

"It's ok. They won't miss me, but I guess I'll get to it," I respond nonchalantly, not worried about it. The red head gives me this look that only my dad could give me when I do something he doesn't like.

"Wait. How's your side feeling?" She asks.

"It's fine. Much better, thank you."

"Good. If it gets worse just come by the house or the vet clinic. I could fix you up. Or you know, you could come by for anything you might need." She offers.

Her mother side makes me smile sadly. I love my dad but it's not in the Winchester nature to offer little things. Katherine must've noticed the change in my mood because she gets up and hugs me. The same feeling arises in my stomach like it did yesterday.

I cut the hug off before I could get too emotional and send my goodbye before leaving. Thoughts of my mom plague my thoughts for the walk to school since my car is still there.

Kylie meets me at my locker and I smile. She's a good normal friend. Not a hunter and also not a crazy gossiper like everyone else in this town. Well, not a bad one anyway.

"I'm wanna die. Another math test next week," I complain and take a long sip of my coffee. She rolls her eyes.

"You'll do fine. But forget about math. I heard you left early yesterday with Cole," she asks me and I shake my head.

"Yeah, his mom helped me out with something. It's nothing crazy, I swear," I tell her earning a frown. "Alright fine. I kissed his cheek after. End of discussion."

Her eyes light up and she smiles knowingly. "Wow. I thought you were the untouchable girl. One who wouldn't be affected by the Cole Affect," she jokes and I shrug.

"Well even you can't deny he's hot. It's not even a thing. So let's not talk about it," I tell her. Something common in our family is to not talk about emotions. It's awkward. "What about you talking about your feelings for Alex?"

"Ok. Fine. No talk about boys," she agrees and I smirk. She would never admit it and neither would I. That's why we're friends. We never push each other to talk about stuff we don't want to.

We go down the hall to Art class but the school counselor and a security officer at the door make me groan. Kylie gives me a knowing look and slides past them as they head my way.

"You know the drill, Ms. Nichols. Bag," the counselor, Tara orders me. Nichols is my cover name. The name Winchester has too much baggage with demons and such.

Kids around are already looking and gossiping as per usual. "Really? We have to do this every time," I groan as I hand the guard my bag. She gives me a look and then moves forward.

"Well let's see. Your pockets," she states and puts her hand in my jacket pocket pulling out my special knife and hands it to the guard who has already taken out a taser from my bag. "Stop bringing weapons and we won't have to. You can make an appointment with me after school."
