At nine am on the dot Erix walked into the police station. He waved to the officer who had helped arrest him (he waved back confused and concerned) and walked into the sheriff's office."Morning, I'm here to pay bail!" Erix cheered.
"Well isn't that ironic," Sheriff Galpin said.
"I know right." Erix pulled out his wallet. "How much?"
"A hundred dollars."
"Cash or card?"
"Cash."
"Alright." He handed over two 50's. "Here's your hundred. Now, where are they?"
"Come on." Galpin stood from his desk and took his keys out, leading them to the holding cell where Wednesday was leaning against the wall, a look of disgust on her face as her parents cuddled.
"Good morning~" Erix said in a singsong voice. "The sheriff was not happy."
"I can imagine why."
"Oh Diable, what are you doing here?" Morticia asked.
"I paid bail." He checked his watch. "We've gotta go now unless we want Weems to put my head on a stick."
"I wouldn't mind that," Wednesday said as she walked out the cell door.
"Oh c'mon, Batty, you know you'd miss me." Erix smirked. "Auntie Tish, say goodbye to Uncle."
"Oh Diable, must I do it so soon?"
"If we're gonna prove he's innocent you've gotta leave at some point."
"You think he's innocent?" Galpin said. "He's just as guilty as you are."
"Oh hop off it, I didn't do anything!" Eric groaned. "Auntie?"
"We'll meet again mon cherié." She kissed him and stood from the bed.
"Farewell Tish." Gomez waved as Galpin closed and locked the cell back.
Erix walked them back to the street and whistled. Alfred pulled up and he held the door open for them before getting in himself. The ride back was silent until he said, "Soooo how are we gonna do this?"
"What?" Wednesday asked.
"Y'know, prove his innocence. There's no way you guys were grave robbing for any other reason. It's too soon after Uncle's arrest for it to be a simple mother-daughter-bonding-thing."
"You're too perceptive," she said.
"So I've been told. So what's the plan?"
"Wednesday do you remember who was in charge of the Garrett Gates case back then?" Morticia hummed.
Wednesday nodded. "It's time to see the mayor."
❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎
"Thank you for seeing us at such short notice, Mr. Mayor."
"Yes, well, veiled threats have that effect."
After Erix gave Ajax and Enid a call to keep Weems away from his dorm, he, Wednesday, and Morticia stood in the mayor's office.
Erix leaned over to ask Wednesday. "Why do I always have to do the threatening?"
"You said you'd be my bodyguard."
"Fair enough."
"Garrett Gates wasn't killed by a stab wound," Wednesday said.
Walker cleared throat.
"That blue sheen is a telltale sign of nightshade poisoning," she continued. "But you already knew that, didn't you? Because back when you were sheriff, you were in charge and covered it up."
