House: Ravenclaw
I had been the herbology professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for two years now, and I absolutely adored it. Since graduating Hogwarts five years ago it had been my dream, but I first had to spend three years studying under a more professional herbologist before I could go out on my own. When I applied for the role of herbology professor after Professor Sprout's retirement, Professor Dumbledore employed me in a second.
I was good with the children and the majority seemed to like me, most likely because I was the youngest of the faculty and they could relate to me more. I cared deeply for my craft, tending to my plants so carefully and even taking them home with me over the school's summer break. Now however we were finally back and I had finished moving all of my belongings back into the school, getting ready for the new school year.
It was the last week of August and all of the professors were planning their classes for the first month of term. We were due for multiple faculty meetings, the first of which I was at now in the staff meeting room, all of us gathered around a long table with Professor Dumbledore sat at the end.
"Another year at Hogwarts starting at Hogwarts... welcome back everybody. I trust you all enjoyed your summer break?" He said with a soft smile. I had always like Dumbledore. "There are numerous things I do need to notify you of..." he continued to reel off a large number of important changes that would be made this year, mainly that due to the escape of Sirius Black there will be dementors from Azkaban stationed just outside the enchantments covering the school. The thought sent shivers down my spine and I made a mental note to practice my patronus charm just in case.
"Onto more cheerier notes," he continued. "We have a few changes in staffing this year. As Professor Grubbly-Plank has now retired from their subject of Care of Magical Creatures, that position will now be filled by our own groundskeeper, Rubens Hagrid," he said fondly. I looked at the half-giant who blushed under his husky beard but I was happy for him as I knew how much he cared for magical creatures.
"There is another change in staff. Due to the fact we lost Professor Lockhart last year under... mysterious circumstances, we have employed a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. His name is Remus Lupin," Dumbledore explained.
"Excuse me?" Snape stiffened up next to me.
"Yes Severus, you heard me correctly," Dumbledore said softly.
"Professor, that 'man' is not suitable for this school. He should never step foot here again. He is after all-,"
"Severus," Dumbledore said sternly and Snape bit his tongue, clear irritation written on his expression. "Now, there is one important detail about Professor Lupin that I must inform you all of. He is in fact a registered werewolf."
There was small gasps down the table and my eyes widened with surprise. I had never met a werewolf as far as I knew, so I wasn't sure what to expect. "See," Snape suddenly said, referencing the gasps. "Not suitable, immature-,"
"Professor Snape, I believe you are letting old memories haze your opinions," Professor McGonagall said bitterly.
"Professor Lupin is a perfect candidate for this subject. I would not have employed him otherwise," Dumbledore said softly. "He will however need a constant supply of Wolfsbane potion. (y/n), I would like you to supply the Herbology ingredients for the potion, and Severus you shall be in charge of making his supply. This will not prevent Professor Lupin's transformation, but it will allow him to keep his human mind on full moons. We have a safe space for his transformations to take place," Dumbledore explained. I nodded in agreement, more than happy to supply the correct plants for the poor man. "Excellent. He will be arriving via the Hogwarts Express on 1st September, with the students. Any questions?"
