Chapter Eight.
Dr. Richardson's POV
I found out her name was Catherine. i personally didn't think it suited her, but it was her mothers call. i stood by her bedside, checking her charts. she seemed to be recovering nicely, but she has yet to wake up. she has been out for about 15 hours. the boy's parents picked hI'm up a few hours ago. he looked drained.
Catherine had to have a blood transfusion, due to the blood she lost. i was stalling now, watching her sleep. she looked so peaceful. i reached out and stroked her hair lightly. so beautiful. i almost wanted to kidnap her and have her live with me... a nurse walked by, calling my name. well, until next time, Beautiful Catherine. i speed walked to catch up with the nurse. then all of a sudden, as soon as we were down a deserted hallway, she turned around and slammed me against the wall.
" what the hell Mary?" i whispered angrily, trying to push her from me. no luck. this chick was strong.
" don't 'what the hell' me James. Mark is looking for the money. i have been stalling for you as long as i can! the cops are getting suspicions. $ 5,000 dollars by Wednesday, James. Wednesday! do you hear me?! WEDNESDAY!" she screamed, then walking off quickly in the other direction. crap... i was screwed. walking away in a daze, i saw a man wondering around, looking worried. i walked up behind him and tapped his shoulder. he was tense. he jumped, startled, and whipped around. a slight tinge of relief floated in his eyes. his brown hair was messy and dirty, his clothes tattered, and dark circles hung under his eyes.
" may i help you?" i asked him curiously.
" yeah, um, I'm looking for Catherine. Catherine Lochart. my names is Jay Lochart, i am her uncle, and guardian. my boss wouldn't let me off work and as soon as he did i booted it. can i visit her?" Jay asked, worried and stressed. i had to fight to keep my eyes from buldging from my head. i cleared my throat, pushing my surprise deep within me. i put on a welcoming smile.
" actually, i just checked Catherine, she hasen't gained consciousness yet, but-"
" WHAT?! she's in a coma?!!" Jay shreiked. i shook my head quickly.
" no no, she just lost some blood, and she passed out i guess you could say. she would have been in a lot of pain if she were awake. apparently someone had smashed a window and it flew inside. Catherine was at the wrong spot at the wrong time, and most of the shards ended up on her. she had to be stitched up some, mostly around the neck area. none of the injuries should scar, except for the mentioned neck area. she got cut pretty bad."
" can i see her?" he asked hopefully. i shook my head.
" that's not up to me. you say your her guardian, and i believe you, but you have to go check in. we can't let anyone in to see anyone. and it's not exactly visiting hours. it would be easier for you if you just waited a couple hours, 'till-"
" no, i am going to see her now. take me to her. how much... how much should i pay you? to take me to her?" he asked in a hushed voice. bribery. that was so...him. i smiled.
" no charge. come this way."
he followed. i lead. when we approached Catherine's bed, a sigh of relief burst from Jay's mouth.
" she still looks perfect. i don't even really notice the stitches. thank you, doctor..." he searched for my name tag. i wasn't wearing one at the moment, so i stuck out my hand to shake.
" doctor Richardson. but you can call me James.
David's POV
i sat at my glass kitchen table, staring at my phone. my parent's were upstairs sleeping. it was around three, four in the morning. but i couldn't exactly sleep after what had happened. i wonder if Sam made it out, i saw him go upstairs before the fire broke out. i decided to text him.
'_ Hey, you okay? i didn't know if you made it out or not' i sent the text and waited, anxious. Sam had been my best friend since we were in third grade. he was like family. a chair moved beside me and i looked up to see Alex, my older brother, staring at me sleepily.
"bro, you did all you could for the chick. she'll be fine. i don't know why your so worried. you have a hot Girlfriend. you know, Rebecca? this girl must be something." Alex spoke. i sighed. i had been trying not to think of Catherine. the more i thought of her, the more i worried. Alex knew me so well. and Catherine WAS something. kindness radiated from her every time i saw her. her eyes were like pits that swallowed me, causing almost dizziness at times. i looked Alex straight in the eyes.
" yeah, but you didn't SEE her. you didn't TALK to her. you didn't watch her almost DIE." right as i said that, my cell buzzed. i frantically picked it up and checked it. SAM! a sigh of relief passed through my lips as i read the message.
' hay man, im fine, glad to hear your fine. can't sleep either?'
i quickly texted back.
' nope. did Tracy get out okay?' i waited a moment before i got a reply.
' yeah. she's really worried about Catherine though. is SHE okay?'
' i don't know. i had to take her to the hospital. a window exp loaded and she got hit. she was out cold when i left her a couple hours ago at the ER.'
i glanced back at Alex who was reading my texts. he shook his head.
"man, I'm just glad you made it out alive." and with that he got up with a glass of water in his hands, and walked upstairs.
Unknowns POV
i hoped James brings me the money. if not, i'd have to dispose of him. and i'd hate to do that since he has resources that no one else does. i already had Sarah on the job, pretending to be a nurse, but James is being stubborn. he better not be tying to find a way out of this, i thought as i wrapped a bandage around my fist. punching in windows really mess's with the hands.
