One month later

It had been a month since I started going out with Chris. At first, it was  a little hard trying to adjust to the traveling we did around the company sites but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Before, I never left Michigan often, only traveling to visit my family. But with Christopher it was a regular occurrence, one day we were in California and the day after we'd find ourselves in Maine.

After he finished his rounds around his company sites, we finally settled in his home in New York.

Chris's penthouse was huge. It cost more than I could ever have in my lifetime and it overlooked  the city and beautiful landscapes.

I still went to work, loving my job, Chris was able to transfer my contract to the MitoBeta New York headquarters where the staff was so much better, my supervisor wasn't a bitch like my last and everyone was really nice. And, there were definitely no creeps like Nathan.

Our relationship was kept on the low. Chris didn't want my coworkers to treat me differently since I was dating the CEO and some media outlets already had some speculations that Christopher Bates was seeing someone and we couldn't give them anything to write about.

It was Saturday night, Christopher and his friend Brandon were going out for drinks and in exchange of his absence, he generously flew Camryn up for the weekend.

We were sitting in the living room, laughing and gossiping about the recent events of our lives.

"Oh my gosh," Camryn sighed, lying across the huge sofa, "this place is absolutely amazing Esme, I'm so happy for you."

I smiled, "I know, it's like a fairytale, after all the assholes I've dealt with I never imagined my life would be like this."

"You know," she started, "I'm really surprised the police haven't caught Nathan yet."

My mood instantly dropped, although Nathan was old news, I'd expect him to be caught by now.

"It's whatever, as long as he stays the hell away from me. And you. I feel so bad leaving you at your mom's house, I wish you would just agree to live here, there's so much space."

Camryn looked at me sarcastically, "please, like I would enjoy living with my best friend and her boyfriend, remember when you stayed one night over at my ex's house?"

I remembered that terrible day. Camryn and her ex were at it like animals while I was trying to sleep in the room over since our apartment was being cleaned for roaches.

"Yeah, you definitely wouldn't want to stay here with us." I laughed.

The night continued around midnight Chris and his friend returned from their night out.

Camryn and I were still huddled on the couch when he and his friend entered the living room.

"Hey guys, did you have any fun?" I asked.

Chris came towards me and kissed my cheek, "not really, I was thinking about you the whole time."

I laughed and pushed his face away as Camryn and Brandon simultaneously expressed playful faces of disgust.

"You seeing this shit?" Brandon asked Camryn while pointing to me and Christopher.

"I know," she replied sighing, "they make me sick sometimes."
