CHAPTER 9
Candice
I merely wanted him to know what it felt like. To be kissed, touched and desired. I didn't mean for things to escalate. And certainly not this quickly. But he seemed to want it—me.
"Do you want to kiss me?" I whispered, staring at his lips.
His breath hitched, and I could see the internal battle going on inside him. His eyes flicked from my lips to my eyes, as if trying to figure out if I was being serious or not.
"I do."
A soft smile tugged at my lips. "Then do it."
For a moment, neither of us moved. Then, his hand came up to cup my face and his lips were on mine, soft and gentle, just a touch. I kissed him back, tasting him, savoring the warmth of his mouth. His other hand slipped on my waist, pulling me closer to himself.
I placed my hands over his shoulders and pulled myself onto him, letting him lift me up, wrap my legs around his hips and settle me onto the edge of the trunk. He leaned forward, pressing his body to mine. I moaned into his mouth as I felt his hardness against my center.
Pulling back, I looked at him, trying to figure out what had changed.
"You're—"
"Hard," he whispered, his voice rough. "Yes."
"And it's because of me."
"Of you," he confirmed.
I swallowed thickly, feeling a knot in my stomach. "But you said—"
"I was wrong."
I leaned closer and brushed my lips against his, whispering, "And now you want me?"
"I do," he said, his voice rough and full of need.
I reached down, brushing my fingers over the front of his pants, feeling the outline of his erection. It was hard and straining against the material.
My lips found his, and I kissed him deeply. His breath hitched as my fingers traced over him, exploring the unfamiliar territory. I couldn't help but press closer, wanting to feel every inch of him against me.
His hand went to the back of my head, fingers tangling in my hair as his tongue met mine. The kiss became frantic, desperate, hungry. I let my hand slip underneath his shirt, touching his bare skin. His stomach muscles contracted under my touch.
He pulled away suddenly, panting, his forehead resting against mine.
"I have never been with another woman," he breathed. "Not ever."
I traced my fingers down, "I know. You told me."
He shuddered against me, his breathing growing ragged. "I'm not sure what to do."
"Do whatever feels right," I whispered, looking up into his eyes. "You can kiss me, touch me, or do more. Anything. You can put it anywhere you want—in my mouth, inside me, or even over me. Anything."
"Fuck."
His mouth crushed mine, his hands gripping my waist, pulling me closer to him, and pressing me harder against the side of the car. His tongue pushed inside my mouth, his fingers digging into my hips.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him back, matching his desperation, his need.
He growled against my lips, and I grabbed his hand, sliding it under my shirt. His fingers traced my stomach, then my ribs, before cupping my breast.
I moaned, arching into his touch, my nipples hardening beneath his palm.
Until I snapped away from him and looked to the side, behind the tree, where I could sense something.
He followed my gaze and landed it at the same place where three men were standing.
"Wolves," I whispered, feeling my body reacting, the darkness within rising to the surface.
The hunger was coming back.
Gideon turned all the way around while I backed into the trunk behind him. There were three of them and the first one was coming out from behind the trees.
"Oh, look at what we have here," He spoke, glancing at the both of us. "A pair of lovers in the middle of the woods. How sweet."
Gideon didn't respond and kept his gaze on the man.
Fuck. The body.
They didn't notice it yet. Maybe because it was a bit too dark or maybe because they weren't in their wolf forms—yet.
"You guys shouldn't have come here," One of the men said, looking straight at Gideon. "Do you not know how dangerous and deadly these woods are?"
Another one spoke behind him, "I've heard stories of young couples like you coming here and never leaving. Do you not care about yourselves?"
"Or did you come here for a purpose?" The third one asked, catching onto something which I hope wasn't the burial beneath him.
"We were just about to leave." Gideon said, looking back at me and then at the wolves.
"Oh, that would be a really good idea."
"We don't want trouble."
"And there won't be if you leave right now. The longer you stay, there might be. And if I were you, I'd leave right away. Don't come here again. You have no idea what you may find here the next time."
I didn't say a word. And neither did Gideon after that.
He turned around to me and wrapped his hand around mine before getting me off the back of the car. I quickly straightened my shirt while avoiding their gazes.
"Go, Candice. Sit inside."
I didn't wait another moment.
I didn't even bother looking at them.
I got into the car and waited for Gideon. The engine was still on and the lights were illuminating the road.
My heart ran wild in my chest, drumming like a crazy beat. It was the hunger.
Fuck, I was going to lose it.
I shut my eyes and breathed deeply, trying to control myself. I didn't want to kill them, didn't want to rip their souls, didn't want to see them die. Not again.
The driver's door opened and Gideon got inside. I didn't look back as he started driving onto the narrow path out of here and onto the main road. It took a few minutes before we were on there.
And then I looked back at the forest.
"It's fine," Gideon placed his hand over my lap, trying to get my attention. "You're fine. Don't worry."
"I know," I nodded before taking a deep breath. "Do you not feel it anymore?"
"I do."
"But you control it—"
"And you'll learn too. Soon."
I stared out of the window, watching the trees fading into the distance as we left the forest behind.
"Are you okay?" He asked, reaching forward and taking my hand in his.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just keep driving. I just want to get far from this place, this whole place."
"I will."
He squeezed my hand, and I couldn't help but feel a flicker of warmth inside me. Even though the hunger was still there, his touch was enough to distract me. Enough to ground me. And I think I liked that.
