CHERRY-BLOSSOM PETALS fell softly around her.

Charlotte reaches out to the sky, palms raised upwards to try to catch one of them — and she watches as a few drops of the sakura flowers fall into her hands, admiring how pretty they looked. Spring was in full bloom, which meant it was perfect for a picnic in Central Park, and crowds of people were gathered in the area, sprawled lazily on their brightly coloured mats.

Beside her, Jasper laid down with his eyes peacefully closed, the wind tousling his maple hair slightly, causing it to fall gently over his eyebrows.

She liked seeing him like this ; calm, free from the worries of work, simply enjoying life. It had been difficult to get him to spend some time with her and the gang lately, so she appreciated it whenever he carved out little pockets of time just for the two of them.

Besides, they only had three days left before he would be leaving for Australia, so it only made sense for them to be making use of whatever time they had left together.

"Are you asleep?" she asks, cupping her palms and resting them behind her head.

He peeks one eye open, smiling at her, dimples creasing in at the corners of his lips. "Nah."

"Right, cause you can never fall asleep outside," she says, and he hums in agreement.

Charlotte continues, "You know I was thinking, it's been so long since we've gone out like this. Just the two of us."

Opening both eyes, he turns towards her. "Yeah. It's nice, isn't it? Feels like it did when we were back home."

"Not that I don't enjoy Sophie and Celia's company," she replies, the statement making them both giggle.

"But I think I'm really gonna miss this once you're gone."

Jasper lets out a low chuckle, "You're making it sound like I'm dying. It's just a year, Lo. Then I'm back."

"Just a year ? Wow, and here I thought you were gonna miss me. I see that's how this is," she says, crossing her arms, pretending like what he said had hurt.

"I guess I'll just have to find myself a new best friend," she states.

"You wouldn't dare."

"Oh, but I would. Like you said, it's just a year. Sounds like enough time for me to find a replacement."

"Shut up," he says, grabbing a falling petal and throwing it at her.

She laughs when it lands on her cheek. "Hey ! Didn't anybody tell you that doing that's rude?"

"Not if you're gonna replace me."
