Present:

Sitting on the porch watching a beautiful autumn sunset, Engfa could not help but smile as the breeze brushed her face. She watched her children play by the swing in their backyard, with a smile on her face. She felt contented, happy even by the sight in front of her. But then, the smell of fresh air with a tinge of dried leaves somehow brought back memories that stirred her emotions. As she closed her eyes, she can't help but remember that moment, how it started and how that part of her life became her turning point. And there she was, mind drifting off to the distant past..

Engfa's POV:

Everyone was raving about how great the party was but I was getting bored. My friends love to throw parties and invite people from other schools and just have a good time. We are very popular in our town, and so a lot of people wanted to hang with us and wanted to get invited to our parties, which usually ends with us getting drunk and sleeping with random people. I always enjoy a good party, but tonight I am getting more excited with what we are going to do after.

A freshman named Snack wanted to join our sorority and we wanted her to do the initiation today. We plan to dare the newbie to jump from the roof into the pool as part of the rite, Heidi's idea. I was getting impatient. "Hey Nessa, where's the freshie at? Let's get the real party started!" I said talking to Nessa who was busy flirting with some random girl. "Look she's here!" she said pointing to the main door of our two-storey sorority house.

Heidi went to Snack as soon as she saw her arrive the party. "You're late newbie!" she said to her with an intimidating smile. Snack seemed to squirm at Heidi's obvious bullying. "Heidi, no need to scare the poor girl" I said slightly shoving Heidi off from Snack. I put my hand around her and ushered her to the bar and gave her a drink.

"Here, drink this, we have a long night ahead of us" I said handing her a cup of mixed alcohol. She smiled and took the drink when I suddenly felt a jolt from behind me. "Who's that bitch you talking to Engfa?" as I looked behind me, a raging Pichy was standing there with her arms on her hips eyeing Snack with jealousy. Snack with wide eyes was taken aback by Pichy's aggressiveness. "Watch the attitude and stop calling everyone I talk to a bitch!" I said sounding annoyed and infuriated. Pichy and I have broken up for more than two months now but she still acts like a jealous girlfriend everytime she sees me talking to someone else. She seemed to retreat a bit, "I just don't like anyone else flirting with you Engfa, I'm sorry!" she said with a low voice. I looked straight into her eyes and said "We were not flirting. And even if I do flirt with someone, it's none of your business because we have already broken up" I snapped at her.

"Hey enough with the drama. Pichy you should know better than to ruin Engfa's mood during a great party!" Nessa said trying to diffuse the tension. Tina and Heidi were behind her shaking their heads with a sly smile on their faces. Pichy, embarrassed, just gave a fake smile then left.

"Alright, now back to our main agenda. Snack, are you ready to do the leap of faith?" Heidi said turning to Snack who hasn't talked for a while. "I..I am, I guess" she answered hesitantly. "Then let's get this over with! A lot of girls are waiting for Engfa's attention, we can't keep them waiting" Tina said teasing. I just shook my head with the remark and put my hand on Snack's shoulders leading her to the pool area where the crowd was waiting in anticipation.

As we got out, the crowd was cheering. "Let's climb up the ladder" I said to Snack while pointing at the ladder we placed to reach the roof. As we reached the top, the wild cheer of drunken youth became louder. "Have any of you guys done this before?" Snack turned to me, fear in her eyes. I smiled "No, but don't worry, I'll jump with you" giving her a smile of assurance. I took my clothes off only wearing my underwear showing my abs. The crowd gave another cheer,  I raised and pumped my hands up and down to acknowledge the crowd. I turned my gaze back to Snack "Now are you ready? When I count to three we both jump, got it?". Snack with trustful eyes just nodded. "One, two, three!" and with that I slightly shoved Snack off the roof into the pool while I pretended to jump with her. Her jump was awkward and unbalanced.

I stood on the roof laughing as soon as I saw her hit the pool, a wild splash of water hit the people watching below. The crowd boomed with cheering, howling, and whistling waiting for Snack to emerge from the water, but few seconds have passed and still nothing. The cheering stopped, then as she popped out, everyone noticed that she was not moving and was still face down.

I felt panic creeping down my entire body when I realized that she landed in the shallow part of the pool. "Help her out of the pool!" I shouted to the people below. Everyone seemed shocked until one guy shouted "Neighbourhood Security is coming! Someone reported the party!". Everyone ran and panicked, cars leaving being heard. I quickly climbed down the ladder and got Snack out of the pool. I can see blood from her forehead. I tried to give her CPR but Nessa was yanking me up "Engfa let's go! Security is coming!". "What about Snack?" "She'll be fine, the security will help her when they get here. We need to scram or else we might get suspended or worse go to jail!" Nessa said panic-stricken then left me there. I looked at Snack, I felt guilty and worried about what happened to her but the fear of going to jail and getting kicked out of school got the better of me.

I put on my jeans and reached for my car keys inside my pocket then ran to my car. I soon as it started I drove as fast as I could but the Security Patrol saw me leaving the scene and ran after me. We were in a full on car chase. I then realized that my headlights weren't turned on and didn't see the road closure ahead. It was too late to stop, I crashed my car into the barricade and hit my head and knee. I was in full shock and didn't know what to do. Before I could gather my thoughts and decided to make a run for it, adrenaline had worn off and I can feel the pain on my head and knee. It was too late, the Security came up to me, directing his flashlight to my face, I surrendered and got off the car. This is not how I wanted the night to end.
