Noel had created a group chat after dinner at Grace's place for the ROG team, feeling a surge of determination as the remnants of their past victories and the thrill of a new beginning intertwined. He added Reuben's contact and typed a message, heart racing with anticipation as he pressed send."Hey, Reuben! It's Noel. Just wanted to check in and see how you're doing. We've got the team back together, and we'd love to have you back for the upcoming season!"
To his surprise, Reuben responded almost immediately.
"OMG BROTHER!" Reuben replied, the exuberance of his words leaping off the screen.
A wave of excitement washed over the group. They all leaned in closer, eyes glued to the chat as they waited for his next message.
"Wow, it's been too long! How's everyone? Is Zaw back with you guys?"
Noel quickly typed back. "Yep, he's here! We're planning to reclaim our spot in the championship. We want you back on the team, especially since you'll be graduating just before the season starts. What do you think?"
"Are you serious?!" Reuben replied. "I'd love to, but you know I've got to finish my studies first. How have you guys been? And what's the team looking like?"
Charles couldn't contain his excitement. "We've got Zaw, Grace, and me! It feels like old times, but we're better than ever. We're ready to take back the Golden Road!"
Noel felt a grin spread across his face. "We've got a solid lineup. We just need you back to complete the family. What do you say?"
Reuben's reply came after a moment, his enthusiasm palpable even through the screen. "You guys are making me nostalgic! I've missed playing with you all. I'll be done with my finals in mid-December, and the season starts right after. I'd be honored to join back."
Zaw chimed in, "We need the Aussie's pride on our side! You know how much your skills meant to us. Let's make this happen!"
Noel couldn't help but beam at the mention of Reuben's nickname, which he had earned through sheer talent and charisma. Reuben 'Mellow' had made quite a name for himself in the competitive scene. After moving to Australia to pursue his studies, he had quickly climbed through the ranks of amateur teams, showcasing his skills and gaining the admiration of local fans. His charming personality and infectious enthusiasm had drawn attention not just in Australia, but also among his home fans in Singapore. Reuben became a bridge between the two communities, celebrated as "Aussie's Pride" for representing both cultures while dominating the gaming scene.
"Can't wait to see you again, brother!" Noel typed back, feeling the weight of the past lift slightly from his shoulders. "We'll make sure everything is set for your return. It's time to show everyone what ROG is made of."
As the chat continued to buzz with excitement, Noel noticed that Grace had gone quiet. He turned to her. "Everything okay?"
Grace was staring at her phone, her brow slightly furrowed. "Yeah, I just... I'm really happy for Reuben. But I can't shake this feeling. I know we're all excited, but what if we can't live up to our past?"
Noel felt a pang of empathy. "I understand how you feel. We've all struggled since the disbandment, but we're stronger now. We have each other again. We can learn from the past and grow."
Zaw nodded in agreement. "Grace, remember what we achieved together. That bond is still there. We can build on it. The past doesn't define us; it's how we move forward that matters."
"Yeah," Charles chimed in. "We're not the same players we were three years ago. We've all grown and learned from our mistakes. This time, we'll approach it with fresh eyes and a solid plan."
