March 13th, sneaking out.
Paintbrush's day had been... uneventful. All the activities today had been boring since the whole downhill area was flooded because of the rain. They sighed and sat on their covers. Their thumb glided as they scrolled through their social media apps, multiple pictures of their friends having fun popped up, Paintbrush felt frustration bubble up inside of them, they gripped the sheets before sighing. They'd much rather be out with their friends back home than be here. Paintbrush turned off their phone and sighed, before the all too familiar slam of the door interrupted them.
"Painty!" Lightbulb smiled, "You wanna do something fun?" She asked.
Paintbrush raised an eyebrow at her, oddly suspicious of her intentions. "Like what?"
"Ohhh.. y'know.. Just some sneaking out!" she grinned, almost evilly. Lightbulb must have noticed Paintbrush's expression, because she quickly followed with, "Just to the gas station down the road, we can get slushies!"
Paintbrush shook their head, "No, Lightbulb, I'm not risking getting in trouble because of you." they grumbled. Lightbulb frowned and plopped herself onto their bed.
"Pretty please, Painty!" she pleaded, "Today's been sooooo boring, and plus i want a slushie! I brought my own money!"
"No means no, Lightbulb!" Paintbrush scolded, crossing their arms, "Now, are you gonna stop acting like a child or am I gonna have to put you in time out," They said half way sarcastic and part meaningfully.
"Whatever! You don't hafta come, but i'm still going!" she announced, rummaging through her suitcase, grabbing a couple dollars and stuffing them in her pocket, she looked out the window and noticed it was practically dark now. "Perfect!!" she smiled.
"Wah— No, Lightbulb, you aren't going!" They scolded, standing up and grabbing her shoulder,
Lightbulb shrugged them off before stepping in her shoes. "See ya later, Painty!" she grinned smugly.
"Wait–!" Paintbrush called out, pulling on their sweater, "I'll come, but only to make sure you don't get killed by some creep." They muttered, accepting their defeat.
"Hooray!" she smiled, walking to the window and opening it a decent amount and jumping out. "Hurry up!" she whisper-yelled.
"I'm hurrying!" Paintbrush whispered back, rolling their eyes. They slipped on their shoes, not bothering to properly tie them. They hurried out the window and started speed-walking to Lightbulb. "Are you sure this is a good idea?"
"Mhm, I'm sure! I've done this every year since I've been here!" She chirped. The two made it to a wire fence, it wasn't very high, Paintbrush could just pick up Lightbulb and place her over. While they were thinking though, Lightbulb had already jumped the fence.
"Alright, now you!" She smiled. Paintbrush huffed before climbing the fence and jumping off, they hissed as they hit their foot, causing a small stinging sensation.
"Why did I even bother coming along," They mumbled underneath their breath. Lightbulb happily skipped down the road, it was nearly empty, the occasional car driving past and temporarily blinding them with their lights.
Paintbrush put their hands in their pockets and kicked a stone on the way to the gas station, they looked over at Lightbulb who was seemingly staring at the rocky road. "Is the dirt interesting or something?" they teased.
Ligthbulb snapped out of her dazed state and looked up at them, "What?" she asked. Paintbrush just shook their head and shrugged her off. As they continued walking, Paintbrush was starting to get worried. "Uh.. you okay?" they mumbled, placing a hand on her shoulder. Lightbulb nearly jumped out of her skin when they did that.
