It was the evening of what I knew to be my last dinner before I got crucified. I sat at the table with my twelve disciples. As we were eating, I set my utensils down and spoke to them, "Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me," I said as I looked around. My eyes lingered on Judas more than the others.
One by one, they all ask me if it was them, saying "Surely you don't mean me, Lord?"
I sighed, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born."
All of them looked taken back by my comment. "Surely you don't mean me, Rabbi?" Judas said.
I wanted to say no, but I couldn't deny the truth. "You have said so."
All of the disciples looked at each other before returning to eating. A little later, I took some bread and I gave thanks. I broke it and I gave some to each of my disciples, "Take this and eat it. This is my body."
I took a cup and I gave thanks. I gave some of the liquid to my disciples, carefully pouring a little into each cup. After I had distributed the drink, I lifted it up in a toast. "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it again with you in my Father's Kingdom."
A little while later after we had all eaten, we went to the Mount of Olives. "This very night you will fall away on account of me, for it is written: 'I will strike the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.' But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee."
Peter looked offended. "Even if all of the others fall short on account of you, I never will."
I appreciated his passion. "Truly I tell you this very night before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times, Peter."
Peter shook his head frantically. "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you," he declared, which made the others say that as well. I sighed, for they did not know what was to come.
