↳ chapter five ↲━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
❝ ARE YOU NEW HERE?
MY NAME'S KIM.❞
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━"ARE YOU SURE YOU'LL be fine?" Bella asked, zipping up her schoolbag and giving Talia a concerned look.
Talia smiled, waving her off. "I'll be fine, Bella. Go ace that test."
Bella hesitated for a moment before grabbing the car keys off the counter. "Charlie said you can use his car if you want to drive around. Just... don't crash it, okay?"
Talia laughed. "I'll try my best."
With one last smile, Bella left for school, leaving Talia with an entire day to herself. She decided to start with organizing her clothes, which had somehow exploded all over the room. As she folded a stray sweater, a soft ding from Bella's open laptop caught her attention.
A notification had popped up, indicating an error with a failed email. Curious, Talia approached the laptop, her hand hovering over the keyboard with the full intention of shutting it down. But just as she was about to shut the screen, her eyes caught the recipient's name: Alice Cullen.
Talia's eyebrows furrowed. Alice Cullen? The name Cullen was familiar—Edward's last name. But Bella had never mentioned an Alice before. Unable to resist her curiosity, Talia clicked on the email.
It was short but heartfelt. Bella wrote about the bonfire last night, about the warmth of being surrounded by people who made her feel safe and mentioned Quill and Talia's fall. She mentioned Jacob, Quill, Embry—and even Talia. But what caught Talia's attention was the last line: I miss you and Edward. I know he's not coming back, but it still hurts.
Talia bit her bottom lip, feeling a pang of guilt for invading Bella's privacy. But her curiosity pushed her further. She navigated to the "Sent" folder, her heart thudding in her chest. There were dozens of emails to Alice. One per day, at least.
Talia's finger hovered over another email, but she couldn't bring herself to click it. The guilt was already weighing heavy. She leaned back in the chair, letting out a long sigh. Why was Bella writing to Alice, knowing these emails weren't going anywhere?
It was a strange mix of sadness and confusion. It was her own way of coping. She clicked back to the inbox, carefully leaving everything as it was. After shutting the laptop, she resumed back to organizing her suitcase, chewing on her lip.
After finishing, the girl couldn't shake off the temptation to look into her friend's emails so Talia grabbed her backpack, the car keys and left to the cafe.
