FROM YOU.

THE ARIZONA HEAT creeped through the cracked window as a girl sprawled herself on the bedroom floor wishing they had bought the a.c. they saw on the store's display yesterday. Her father was stubborn enough about fixing the unit so he wouldn't spend his savings. But just like many fathers, he had forgotten to do so and now the entire house felt like a sauna.

"Natalia!" Her mother, Joyce, called out for her from the kitchen. "Homework time!"

Talia quietly groaned standing up on her two feet wondering why she was always tasked on tutoring her brother when her mother or father could easily do it. They rarely ever sat down with either of their children to teach them or at least help them with their homework. Luckily for Nathan, he had his older sister but unluckily for Natalia she had to figure everything out herself.

"Going!" Talia responded grabbing her textbooks as she figured she'd get ahead on some homework. The girl readjusted her hair up in a messy ponytail before heading downstairs where her mother and brother were.

"Hi Talia," Nate greeted with a toothless smile.

"Hi buddy," Talia replied ruffling his hair before greeting her mother by pressing a kiss on her cheek. "Hi mom."

"Hey sweetheart," she greeted busy with taking out the ingredients for the dinner they were going to have. "Do you mind helping your brother with his homework? I'm busy with the food."

Natalia shook her head as it was an everyday occurrence. She didn't mind it as much because she understood that her mother had just finished work, went to pick up her son from the school program, and came home to prepare dinner before her husband arrived.

      "You got your homework out?"

"Yeah! We started learning how to subtract today! Look!" Nathan showed Talia his work. "Mr. Lawrence said to draw fruits to show our work."

Talia nodded reading the directions for his homework as she sits down next to him. "Okay so if you have five apples and you sell two apples, how many do you have left?" Talia asked her younger brother who started to draw five apples.
