LAUGHTER FILLED THE small home as the only person that didn't laugh rolled their eyes. "Yeah, so funny, guys." Embry replied sarcastically still annoyed over Paul's attempt to flirt with Talia.
Talia giggled, leaning into Embry's side as his arm tightened around her waist. She could feel the warmth of his body against hers, grounding her in the chaotic yet cozy atmosphere of the home. Across the table, Emily and Kim exchanged amused glances while Sam simply smiled, clearly enjoying the fact that each of the boys had someone to lean on.
"Oh, come on, Embry," Emily teased, resting her chin on her palm. "You're just mad because Paul got under your skin."
Embry scoffed, reaching for the breadbasket in front of him and grabbing a roll with unnecessary force. "Please. Nothing Paul says bothers me."
Talia tilted her head, fighting back a knowing smile. "Mmm, really? Because I could've sworn I felt you tense up a little back there." She glanced up at him with playful innocence, though her eyes sparkled with mischief.
Embry glanced down at her, narrowing his eyes with a smirk. "Watch that little mouth of yours, baby. You're playing a dangerous game."
Kim, who had been quietly sipping her tea, finally spoke up, her voice light with amusement. "You two are cute. Embry, I think you might actually be the first guy to get jealous over Paul of all people."
Emily let out a laugh, nodding in agreement. "Right? It's just Paul being Paul."
From the living room, Paul's voice rang out, loud and teasing as if he'd been listening the whole time. "I heard that! And for the record, I am pretty irresistible."
Jared groaned from where he sat on the couch. "Shut up and watch the game, man."
Talia laughed, shaking her head before looking up at Embry again. "You know, I don't mind when you get jealous." Her voice was just low enough that only he could hear her. "It's kinda sexy."
Embry's grip on her waist tightened slightly, his eyes darkening as he studied her. "Yeah?"
Talia bit her lip, her stomach flipping at the way he was looking at her—like she was the only person in the room. "Mhm."
Emily cleared her throat, grinning at them. "Alright, you two. Maybe save the flirting for after dinner."
Embry huffed but didn't let go of her. Instead, he stole a quick kiss to her temple before turning his attention back to his food, acting as if he wasn't affected at all. But Talia knew better.
