*Elizabeth's P.O.V*
"Are we almost there? I'm ready to be there," I tell Mommy, definitely for the first time during our entire ride. I mean I would have to eventually speak to her so now seemed like a good time.
"Do you think my answer has changed from the last time you asked? Asking a different way doesn't change the answer, Beth." Mommy points out.
I shrug my shoulders, looking back out the window. I hadn't asked even once so I didn't know what she was talking about. She was just crazy and old and very forgetful. I knew I shouldn't have let her be the boss! Old people were terrible at making things up and making it seem like it was all your fault. Like Mommy saying that I had asked lots of times before! I hadn't asked even one tiny bit! She just made that up.
"Haven't asked," I retort, crossing my arms over my chest after a moment. How dare she imagine that I would ask such a thing! I would never ever ask her anything again because she was such a meanie head!
"You have asked about fifty times in the last hour," Mommy points out after seeing my reaction.
Puffing out my cheeks as I look at her, I earn a small chuckle from her. I swat at her hand when she tries to pinch one of my cheeks, narrowing my eyes at her as she turns her head to try and hide the fact she's laughing at me.
"Don't laugh at me! That's not being nice," I tell her as sternly as I can, pouting even more when she covers her mouth to hide her smile. She pats the spot next to her and I stubbornly refuse to switch seats.
I was just fine sitting across from her, perfectly safe and out of reach in case I somehow managed to upset her. I didn't think I would but you couldn't tell with old people like her! They were just irritable sometimes.
"Fine then little miss grumpy pants," Mommy snorts as she sits back in her seat and smooths out her dress, ignoring how I glance at her lap.
I kind of wanted to sit there but I wasn't going to tell her that. That was my biggest secret today, the fact that I wanted to sit on her lap very badly. However I would just deal with it or else she would think that I wanted cuddles and she did not deserve my cuddles! I was the Queen after all and she had offended me. I should send her to a dungeon...I wondered if Auntie had a dungeon we could hide her in for lying and calling me names! Plus, I wasn't even wearing pants! I never wear pants!
"Do I need to remind you of how you're expected to behave? No demanding, no being rude..." Mommy starts to list, counting them one by one on her fingers. I puff out my cheeks as I look at her once again, upset she had interrupted my thoughts.
"Mommy, I know the rules! I'll be on my best behavior," I cut Mommy off, earning a raised eyebrow from her. I curse internally, realizing it probably would have been better to wait and not interrupt her since that was also one of the rules, I think.
"I will be good, Mommy. I remember how to behave around the rest of the family," I tell her, earning a small nod.
"I believe you, Beth. You're a good girl at heart. I just... you've grown up so much," Mommy says as she decides to move next to me.
I am surprised, mostly just because I thought she would demand I move to sit next to her. Instead however she makes the move to switch to sitting next to me. Maybe she would also make the move of making me sit in her lap...That would be just awful though....
"My baby, where has my cute little baby gone? I swear it feels like it was just last night you were asking to sleep in my bed because you swear you saw a monster under yours!" Mommy says as her hand gently cups my face, a small smile on her lips.
I pout at her words, my pout turning into confusion when I see that her eyes are glassy. Why did she look sad? I hadn't done anything to make her sad! Who had made her sad then? I would have them executed as soon as I found out. No one was allowed to make my mommy sad.
"No, don't cry," I say as I lift my hand up, touching her face. She chuckles softly, grabbing my hand and pressing her face into it. She eventually pulls my hand back, letting go of me for a moment. I wipe at her face, trying to get rid of any sneaky tears that may have fallen when she wasn't paying attention. Once I make sure there were none, I just sort of leave my hand on her face so that I can enjoy the feeling of being close to her.
My moment of peace doesn't last long as she wraps her arms around me, drawing me close. I huff slightly, pressing my face into her shoulder as she rocks me slowly. This was not how close I wanted to be but if she was going to make me cuddle her, I wouldn't complain...much. I hum softly, feeling her hand rub my back gently.
"Is grandmother going to be there? Is she going to be not grumpy this time?" I ask softly, feeling Mommy's nails gently scratch my back. A small laugh escapes her, the noise making me huff as it made her chest vibrate and I was trying to use her as a pillow.
"Your grandmother never misses a reunion, especially not if she thinks you'll be there. She may not be able to handle the trip to the castle thanks to her age but your aunt lives in the same neighborhood so she's there often enough to have her own room added to the house," Mommy says as I tilt my head up to look at her, pouting when she taps my nose gently.
"I don't wanna see her, she's gonna treat me even more like a baby then you do," I grumble as I bury my face into her chest, earning a small coo from Mommy.
"Oh that would be just horrible. It would be awful if your grandmother knew her grandbaby was still just a baby," Mommy teases as she wraps her arms around me, rolling her eyes when I glare at her.
"I'm telling grandmother that you're an awful mommy who never visits me and doesn't do anything nice for me ever," I say, shoving my face into the crook of her neck and covering my ears. Mommy tries to move me back but I refuse to move, happy with my plan and the slight panic I saw on her face when I said that.
"Well if you tell her that, don't blame me when your maids are cleaning the entire castle spotless for her arrival to live with you all of a sudden. I'm sure your aunt wouldn't mind and actually might help her move and get settled!" Mommy says, making me instantly regret even entertaining the idea of telling her!
Though Mommy doesn't need to know I changed my mind! She can continue to squirm thinking I will tell her how mean she always is and how she needs to be punished for it! That sounds like a much better plan!
