It was at this point that my relationships with two women would change forever.
The Cold War between the two halves of the Imperium would not last long... meaning I was on a time crunch. Either there would be a bloody civil war, or external invasion, or some sort of compromise forcing both sides to unite.
This was the beginning of the final stages of the Cadian War. An Ork fleet was attempting to land an invasion force on a relatively new, small fortress called Casus. I had personally participated in the Battle, and several Nobs of humongous size were cut down by the forces. I was able to use much more subtle offensive attacks now, including the choke, and mental attacks, and even forcing some organs to explode, so I had an advantage.
As for the system, it continued to collect points: one point per ordinary Ork Boy, two per 'ard Boy, or Mek Boy, five per Weird Boy or ordinary Nob, and ten per major Nob. Fifty per Chieftain. Which meant I had collectively gathered enough to progress to the second level of the system.
When the medical and holocomm systems were distributed, it was widespread jubilation. This time, I let Matthias take the credit. He had just found a form of communication that did not require the use of Astropaths and all that corruptible Warp bullshit.
Then Directive Septimus was passed. We asked the Tech-Priests to produce more Titans. Simple as that. The Tech-Priests acquiesced.
The Directive created a lot of protest, but we held out. Guido Oud, the current Fabricator-General of the Adeptus Nihilus Mechanicus, was largely pro-innovation and even lent us teleporting Titans from the Forge-World Lucius.
It was after I returned from the Battle that I noticed something off in the celebrations.
The Commissar was missing.
I found her later. In the baths. Well, you see, the bathrooms are unisex bathrooms because of lack of resources, proximity to the frontline, and a lack of hate for any human unless they were a heretic. I found her, more accurately, in the sinks.
At first I thought she was washing her hair. It was understandable: the water was cold as fuck. She had bent over with her head in the sink, full of water. But then... I mean, she was not moving, was she?
Ah. So that was the matter...
The crumpled piece of paper on the slabs containing the sinks. I picked that up.
I then checked her pulse, after safely tucking the paper into my pocket. She had a faint pulse.
I then grabbed her neck and dragged her head out of the water, before laying her flat. Luckily... I was aware of what had to be done, even if I was a bit sloppy. Chest compressions, mouth-to-mouth... the usual routine.
Alexandra was not allowed to die till I had had my revenge, at the very least.
She came to, her body slowly moving, and she began to cough out water immediately. She looked quite beautiful: hmm... perhaps she could come of use. Do not think I mean to rape her. That is the one line I will not cross, no matter how bad things become.
Bringing her to me, however, was not out of the question.
I withdrew to a safe, out-of-sight portion of wall before her eyes opened properly. I hope she had not seen me.
Alexandra slowly lifted herself to her feet. Her eyes lacked the usual malice and had a quality of innocence to them I had not seen before. She looked around, wide-eyed, across the bathroom, and I hope she had not noticed me. She slicked back her wet hair, and looked miserable at her clothes. Then something clicked in her, and she looked back at the sinks. Her eyes widened before she ran out of the bathroom as fast as she could, nearly stumbling several times.
