As I gazed out of the bridal shop, a sense of contentment washed over me. The past few months had been nothing short of amazing, and I felt incredibly blessed. The threats had all but disappeared, leaving me to enjoy the love and affection of my family and Grey.
The project we had started together had turned into a beautiful, thriving club and would be launching in a few months, and I was proud of what we had accomplished. Christmas had been incredible - my first Christmas with a real family in years, and it felt like a dream come true.
I found myself lost in these happy thoughts, replaying memories of dancing and singing Christmas carols with the kids, eating delicious food that Isabelle had cooked, and laughing until our sides hurt. It was all so perfect, so happy.
I glanced at the picture of my wallpaper - a photo of Grey, Isabelle, my mom, and I, all smiling and laughing during the Christmas festivities. I sighed contentedly, my heart filling with warmth. My life, once filled with uncertainty and danger, had turned into something beautiful, something I never thought possible.
About a month ago, It was a beautiful spring morning when Lave called me, the excitement in her voice practically radiating through the phone. "Renee! Guess what? Nate proposed!"
I squealed with delight, bouncing up and down on my toes. "Oh my goodness, Lave! That's amazing! I'm so happy for you both!" She laughed, her joy infectious.
"I know, right? And listen, I have another favor to ask. I'd love for you to be my bridesmaid! I was thrilled to be asked, honored even. "Lave, of course I'll be your bridesmaid! You're like family to me, and I couldn't imagine not being a part of your special day."
Lave let out a sigh of relief. "Oh, I'm so glad! And I know Grey will be one of Nate's groomsmen, so it'll be like our little family up there."
I smiled, thinking of Grey. He had been such a positive force in my life, and I was so grateful to have him by my side.
As the big day approached, I watched as Lave tried on wedding dresses, beaming with pride and excitement. But as she modeled each dress, I couldn't help but worry about the impact the tight-fitting designs would have on her growing baby bump.
I hesitated to bring it up, knowing how much this day meant to Lave and Nate. But my concern for their child's wellbeing was growing with each dress she tried on.
"Lave," I finally said, trying to keep my voice gentle. "That dress is beautiful, but don't you think it might be a bit too tight? Lave turned to me, her smile faltering just a bit. "What do you mean, Renee? I think it fits perfectly!"
I took a deep breath, knowing that I had to tread carefully. "I'm just worried about the baby, Lave. I know this day is important to you, but you have to think about the baby's comfort too."
Lave let out a sigh, her hands resting protectively on her bump. "I know, Renee, I know. But I've been dreaming of this day for so long, and I want it to be perfect."
Just then, Nessa, jumped in with her usual enthusiasm. "Hey, I've got an idea! Why don't we make a custom dress that's tighter around your shoulders and chest, but with a little more room for the baby bump? That way, it'll be comfortable for both of you!"
Lave brightened at the suggestion. "Nessa, that's a great idea! Maybe we could do a kind of corset top, with a flowy, draped skirt?" I couldn't help but wince at the suggestion. I tried to keep my reservations to myself, but I couldn't help but chime in. "That sounds lovely, Lave, but won't the corset be tight on your rib cage? I'm not sure that would be comfortable either."
