38 | Grey, what's wrong
CH 38: Your whole world can crash down in a nano-second
🌸Renee Grey🌸
As I gazed upon the blissful faces of Lave and Nate, I was overcome with a sense of warmth and contentment. It was as if I was basking in the sun, but not the physical sun, the emotional one, radiating from the love that surrounded me. I could feel the joy and hope that this union represented, not just for my dear friend, but for myself as well. It was a glimpse of the love that I longed for, and even though it wasn't mine, it was still an incredibly uplifting experience.
"This is beautiful," I whispered to myself, my eyes glistening with unshed tears.
The ceremony came to a close, and the guests began to applaud and cheer. The bride and groom shared a tender kiss, and I couldn't help but smile at the sight. It was then that a thought began to niggle at the back of my mind. I knew that Lave had some secrets, things she had kept hidden from even her closest friends. But as I looked at the radiant glow of happiness on her face, I couldn't help but wonder if perhaps there was more to her past than even I knew. And in that moment, I made a silent vow to myself.
"No marriage is perfect," I thought to myself, "but if I am ever lucky enough to find someone to share my life with, I will protect that union with everything I have."
Lave had made a choice when she decided to marry Nate, a choice to reveal only a portion of her past, to hold some secrets close to her chest. And while I respected her decision, I couldn't help but wonder if those secrets might one day come back to haunt her. But that was a worry for another day. For now, I was simply grateful for the chance to share in her happiness.
Monday arrived like a gentle summer breeze, warm and inviting. I made my way to the towering "Grey's House" building, my heels clicking against the marble floor of the lobby. I waved to Nessa, who greeted me with a smile like always. "Good morning, Renee!" she called out, her voice full of sunshine.
"Good morning, Nessa!" I replied, returning her smile.
As I stepped into the sleek, silver elevator, my mind began to wander. Monday was typically a busy day, filled with meetings, deadlines, and negotiations.
As the elevator doors slid open, my eyes fell upon the familiar sight of our office, the name "Grey's House" emblazoned across the glass walls in bold, black lettering. But something was amiss. A female janitor, carrying her cleaning equipment, rushed past me, her face a mask of determination.
She looked oddly Familiar
My brows knit together in confusion. The janitorial staff never cleaned this late in the morning, and the woman's frantic pace seemed out of place. But I brushed off the oddity, assuming she was running behind schedule.
As I settled into my office, I began sorting through the endless to-do list for the day. My bitchy part time assistant, Minnie, was no longer a part of my team, her presence having become more of a hindrance than a help. It was a relief to have her gone, but also a reminder of the increasing workload I now faced alone.
With a sigh, I pulled up my calendar, my eyes quickly scanning the meetings and tasks for the day. My heart fluttered slightly as I saw a lunch meeting with one of our most important clients, one that could make or break our business.
I gathered the day's itinerary, a collection of folders and schedules that required Grey's attention. With a deep breath, I knocked on his office door and waited for the call to enter.
