The next morning, I was awakened by Namjoon's warm hand on my shoulder. When I opened my eyes, he smiled at me. "Come on, let's go before the others wake up." I nodded and straightened up. "Keep the clothes. Yours was too dirty to wear again. I put it in a bag for you, here."
When I stood up, he held them out to me. "Thank you, Joon."
"Sure thing. Let's go downstairs, okay? You can quickly pack something for breakfast and then eat it in the car." We left the room and went down the big staircase. I tried not to show anything as we walked past Yoongi's room door. Even in the kitchen, I tried to stare as little as possible at the floor or at the specific spot on the counter by the sink.
It somehow hurt to think about yesterday, but in a way I had never known before. My heart hurt in a very strange way. I tried to ignore it and shortly after left the villa with Namjoon. In the car, we were silent. I ate, he drove.
As we passed by the alley where I had first met Yoongi and Namjoon, I eagerly looked out the window, but as expected, no one was there anymore. So Darren had managed to disappear. No idea if that was good or bad. "He's gone," I remarked. Namjoon's gaze was fixed on the road in front of us, but he nodded.
A few minutes passed, then he took the floor: "I've changed my mind. I will already be saying in two weeks that we broke up." Astonished, I looked at him. "So early already? Would that be credible?" Again, he just nodded in response. After a few moments, he added quietly: "I will claim that you cheated on me with your ex."
"What?!"
I whipped my head around to him. "Why would you tell such bullshit? Why don't you just stick to the plan we made in the library? It would be so much easier." He shook his head.
"No. The others will believe me as soon as I tell them you cheated on me. Everyone noticed what Hoseok and Taehyung were talking about. As if you would only use me to secretly hit on Yoongi, Jin, and Jimin."
I was speechless, but instead of continuing the discussion, I looked out the window so he wouldn't see a small tear making its way down my cheek. "You won't remember me like that, will you?"
"Of course not. Don't worry, Yunai." I exhaled shakily and hastily wiped away the tear. "Good. By the way, the next one you need to take left. I live three streets away." After a few minutes, we reached my apartment. As we got out, Namjoon just stared expressionlessly at the multi-story, run-down building in front of us.
I cleared my throat. "Okay, then, um... Bye. Say hello to the others. My apartment is on the third floor, so you don't have to walk me to the door." I smiled timidly. He slowly turned his gaze towards me, then blinked. "I... okay. Bye Yunai. Please take care of yourself. Call if anything comes up, okay? I don't want anything to happen to you."
I swallowed hard, tears welled up in my eyes again. I quickly nodded. His gaze sparkled with concern as he approached me and pulled me into his strong arms. "If this Darren does anything again, you call the police immediately and then me, understood?"
"Yes... Yes, understood." I detached myself from him and approached the door. One last time, I turned to him. "Thank you, Namjoon. Thank you for everything."
