Once everyone had settled inside, the air was thick with a mix of excitement and tension. Subhadra and Anandita found a moment of solitude in the corner of the lavish hall, the sounds of laughter and chatter fading into the background as they faced each other.Subhadra's face lit up with joy, but Anandita's expression was clouded with confusion and concern. "I can't believe it's really you!" Subhadra exclaimed, stepping forward to envelop her sister in a warm embrace. "After all this time, we're finally together again!"
Anandita returned the hug but pulled back slightly, her brow furrowed. "Yes, but it's not just a happy reunion, is it? You're married to Arjun. What made you both decide to elope like this?"
Subhadra's eyes sparkled with a mix of mischief and sincerity. "Oh, you wouldn't believe it! It was Bhratshree. He spoke in riddles, teasing Arjun, pushing him to realize what we had. He always knew we had something special, and he decided to help us along."
"A riddle, really? Is that what this has come to? Arjun just uprooted his life and yours on a whim because of Bhaiya's games? What about the consequences?" Anandita crossed her arms, her expression wavering between disbelief and frustration.
Subhadra's smile faltered as she sensed the tension in her sister's voice. "I understand your concern, Choti, but you must know it was more than a whim. Arya Arjun and I love each other deeply. It wasn't just about running away; it was about seizing a moment that we couldn't ignore."
"And you think this is what love looks like?" Anandita retorted, a mixture of hormones and weariness fueling her frustration. "To elope when so much is at stake? To turn our lives upside down for a riddle? What are you thinking?"
"Maybe it's your pregnancy hormones talking, sister," Subhadra replied gently, her tone soothing. "You're tired and emotional, and I understand. But this isn't a whim; it's a choice we made together. I love him, and I believe he loves me just as fiercely."
Anandita took a deep breath, trying to gather her thoughts. "You deserve the world, didi. But can you truly be happy in a situation that has such a ripple effect on everyone? Do you know how this will affect Draupadi and the family?"
Subhadra bit her lip, her heart heavy. "I didn't want to hurt anyone, especially not Panchali. But I can't deny my feelings for him. I had to follow my heart."
At that moment, across the hall, Arjun and Draupadi stood apart from the festivities, enveloped in a serious conversation. The weight of the evening hung between them like a storm cloud, the joyous atmosphere around them starkly contrasting their expressions.
"Arya," Draupadi began, her voice steady yet laced with hurt, "you've always been a man of honour, yet here you are, marrying Subhadra without considering the consequences of bringing her here. What were you thinking?"
Arjun ran a hand through his hair, visibly conflicted. "I didn't intend for it to unfold this way, Panchali. Madhav's words... made me realize what I truly wanted. But I see your pain, and I wish I could take it back."
"You think you can just come back after this, and everything will be fine?" Draupadi replied, her voice rising slightly. "You've turned my world upside down! We've always shared everything as brothers and wives. What about our bond?"
"I never wanted to hurt you," Arjun said, stepping closer, his expression pained. "I thought this would bring us all happiness in time. I thought... I thought Subhadra would be a part of our family, not a disruption."
Draupadi shook her head, tears brimming in her eyes. "You've put me in a position where I have to compete for your love, Arya. I thought we were above that. I thought we were better than this."
