The next day, Sonic is peeking from behind a tree, watching a baseball game.

"Whoa, the playoffs!"

He then speeds over to the bleachers to watch the game up close and the players congratulating each other. Later on, everyone packs up and heads for home, leaving the baseball diamond completely empty. Sonic is now on the baseball diamond, admiring the beauty of it all.

"Whoa! So cool!"

He spots some baseball equipment and starts to play the role of a batter at home plate.

"Bottom of the 9th, tie score. And exactly who you want at the plate with the game on the line-- Sonic!"

He zoomed to an opposite side of the field now playing the pitcher for the opposing team.

"But staring him down from the pitcher's mound is the most fearsome southpaw in Green Hills-- also Sonic!"

He then switches back to the batter.

"Okay. Focus, Sonic. If you win this game, you'll be the most beloved kid in Green Hills."

Now playing the role of an infielder, Sonic does a secret code with his fingers, straightens his cap, slaps his face a few times, does a couple of armpit farts, flaps his hands and cups them against his mouth.

"Hit it to the guy in left! He's a real space case."

Now playing the role of the left outfielder, Sonic blows a bubble of gum and resumes the role of the pitcher.

"Ugh, I can't with that guy."

"Hey, batter Sonic. Hey, batter Sonic. "Suh-wing," batter Sonic." He says, now playing as the umpire.

As the pitcher, Sonic throws the ball and speeds to the batter position as the ball makes its way towards home plate and he hits the ball high. As the outfielder, he smells a flower in the grass and sees the ball

"I got it, I got it, I got it!"

He tries to catch the ball but is unsuccessful.

"I don't got it."

As the batter, Sonic runs to first base and rounds second while he throws the ball as the outfielder and he dodges the ball in slow motion as the batter and he comes up to third base and plays the role of a teammate.

"Go home! Go home!"

He rounds third base and he plays the umpire again.

"Come on!"

He jumps up and makes a dive for home plate, the umpire catches the ball and he makes it.

"Safe!"

He slides to a stop and jumps with joy.

"Ah, yes! Yes, yes, yes! I did it! Did you see that? I did it! I did it."

He holds up his hand for a high-five, but sees that the baseball diamond is completely empty and silent. He looked down.

"I really am alone. All alone... forever."

He whips off the batter helmet and starts running around the perimeter of the baseball diamond at a very fast speed, his anger and sadness increasing and energy building with each lap.

Finally, he lets out a loud yell as a bright blue electromagnetic pulse explodes in the air, causing the lights in the baseball diamond to explode. The brilliant pulse blooms outwards and spreads across the valley. Several cities blackout, plunging into darkness. Even a satellite is disabled by the EMP.

"I'm sure no one noticed that giant blue explosion, right?" He says nervously before speeding away.

At the Green Hills police station, phone is ringing like crazy as Wade is staring at the machine in terror. He then calls Tom.

Tom, who was home, uses the light on his phone to move some items onto a box near him. His phone rings and he flips it to see Wade on the caller ID. He answers.

"Hey, Wade."

"Hi, Tom. Wade here. What is going on?"  Wade says on the phone.

"Well, gosh, I think the power's out." Tom says.

"Yeah, no dur! The lights are out. The whole town is freaking out. What should I do?"

"Okay, relax. Take a deep breath, call Gil, see if they can locate the downed line, then call Zim and see if he can get his generator over to the Super Q so the food stays fresh." Tom says, before noticing something blue glowing in the dark.

"Call Zim before Gil? Call Gil--Hello?!" Wade says.

"I'll call you back." Tom says before handing up.

"Wait, no, no! Wait! Hello? Was that the end of the instructions?"

Realizing Tom hung up, Wade sets his cell phone down.

"Okay, all right. You can do this. What was the first thing he said to do? Right. Relax."

At home, Tom moves a jacket aside and sees Sonic's quill glowing bright blue in the dark, electricity crackling along it, and picks it up. inspecting it once more.

At the Pentagon,The top members of the United States military sit down at a table in a joint meeting, held by Commander Walters, commander of the U.S. Armed Forces.

"20 minutes ago, an energy surge knocked out power across the entire Pacific Northwest. What do we know?"

"Well, our first instinct was it was an EMP. But electromagnetic pulses don't have that kind of power." The Navy chief says.

"NASA has ruled out meteor strikes or solar flares." The Air Force chief says.

"The Department of Energy says it's not a power plant malfunction." The secretary of Homeland Security says.

"Well, sounds like we're really good at figuring out what it wasn't." Walters says, sarcastically.

"This could be a prelude to a larger attack. I'm suggesting we scramble the 5th and 6th Regiment." The Army Chief says.

"No, no, no, no. This needs a much more sophisticated mind. Someone who understands technology." Walters suggested.

"You want to send in a lab rat?" The Army Chief questioned.

"Not just any lab rat. A lab rat with teeth." Walters says.

"You're not suggesting who I think you're suggesting." The Air Force Chief says.

"I know he's a little weird."

"Weird?!" The Air Force chief exclaimed.

"No. No. No way." The Army Chief says.

"He's a psychological tire fire!" The Air Force chief says.

"But he's also brilliant. 5 PhDs, IQ off the charts. And his drone tech i-i-is revolutionary!" Walters says.

"You're sure he can handle this?" The Army Chief says.

"He has a perfect operations record. Remember the coup in Pakistan?" Walters asked.

"No." The Army chief says.

"Or the uprising in Azerbaijanistan?"

"That's not even a country." The Navy chief says.

"Exactly. And you can thank Robotnik for that." Walters says.

"I can't believe you're bringing that freak into this." The Air Force chief says.

"Neither can I. But... we have no choice." Walters says.
