...

- Hello, Hawke. No, I'm not available.

- Anders, I haven't even told you where we're going or what we're doing yet !

- Going off to kill dangerous things four days' walk from here and pick up dirty underwear.

- A merchant bought me that underwear.

- You threatened him.

- Anders, please, Marill doesn't know any healing, and do you know what happens to a limping dwarf in the middle of a mountain ?

- Hey !

- Sorry, Varric... but still !

- Hawke, I'd love to help you, but I have several patients who will need me here for a few days. And when I say need me, I mean potions won't be enough. Open your mouth, he said to his patient.

- What if I paid you ?

- Money isn't the issue...

- One sovereign.

- Hawke, I told you here...

- Three sovereigns.

- The patients can't be without...

- Ten sovereigns and a ham.

- Marlene, you'll take over for me for a few days, Anders said to another mage, standing up.

Hawke still dragged them all over the place, and he was sure they'd be trudging through the cold yet again, but no. Well, yes. They did head into the cold, but this time, it was for the Tal Vashoth. Well, sort of. A Qunari elf named Tallis had roped them into heading all the way to Orlais. The journey would last three long weeks. Three. Whole. Weeks.

He'd claim some siblings along with those ten sovereigns. They had managed to find some carts, a boat, and horses for the journey, and thankfully, it was the nice season. Oddly enough, they hadn't talked much, aside from discussing mission details. They often had other people around them, and three weeks of insults with Fenris was complicated, especially when neither of them put any effort into it.

And now they had a common enemy.

Varric thoroughly enjoyed the exchanges between Anders, Fenris, and Tallis.

- The Qun saved me from my life; millions of outcasts can come together under the same dogma. You can't deny that !

- Sure, to cut out mages' tongues and do worse than a Circle, yes, marvelous.

- Mages are dangerous, Tallis replied.

- Wah, wah, wah, Anders sighed, continuing to cook.

- Seriously ? And you ? You approve ? You know what it's like to find freedom, right ?

- True. A woman took me out of poverty, trained me, gave me a name, a role, and a purpose.

- Who, Hawke ? Tallis asked, genuinely curious.

- No. Hadriana. She's the one who found me for Danarius.

- You're mocking me, right ?

- No. You heard what you wanted to hear.

Anders bit his lip to keep from laughing, turning his face away.

If Fenris was practically converted to the Qun and respected its teachings, he had a very different view of what true freedom was, and to him, the Qunari offered none by imposing a rank, name, and role. It was the same as with Danarius.
