As silence fell between them, Taehyun took a deep, measured breath, glancing between Beomgyu's shattered expression and Soobin's tense grip on his brother's shoulder. The room was thick with the weight of unspoken grief and silent despair, making it feel smaller, almost suffocating. Taehyun's mind raced, searching for anything to break the tension and ease the sorrow hanging over them like a cloud. He knew Beomgyu needed a reprieve, a distraction, even just a brief escape from the agony that clung to him like a shadow.

"Look," Taehyun started, his voice soft but steady as he placed a hand on Soobin's shoulder, hoping to ground them all. "Why don't we go out tonight? Somewhere loud, busy... somewhere we can forget this whole mess, just for a few hours." He cast a quick, reassuring glance at Beomgyu, who looked utterly spent. "We could hit a club, lose ourselves in the music, pretend—if only for a little while—that life isn't weighing on us so heavily."

Soobin turned, his brow furrowing in disbelief as he crossed his arms. "Clubbing? Really, Taehyun?" he muttered, his voice dripping with skepticism and irritation. "My brother just walked in, looking like he's about to fall apart, and your answer is a night out?"

Taehyun held Soobin's intense stare with an easy smirk, refusing to back down. "And what's wrong with that, Mr. Responsible?" he teased, his tone light but firm. "Sometimes a night out is exactly what people need to clear their heads. You should try it sometime—might take the edge off that intense, brooding personality of yours."

Soobin's jaw clenched, his fingers flexing around his arms, though a faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth despite his irritation. "Intense personality?" he shot back, eyes narrowing with the hint of a challenge. "I'm sorry for caring about my family, Taehyun. Not everyone can just flip a switch and forget their feelings when it's convenient."

"Who says I forget?" Taehyun retorted, crossing his arms and leaning in, his gaze sparking with that same challenge. "I deal with my problems. I don't lock them away. Maybe you should try balancing a little of that into your own life, Soobin. You might find it helps."

They stood toe-to-toe, the tension between them thickening, both of them glaring at each other, not out of anger, but with an unspoken dare. The atmosphere was electric, a mix of frustration and something neither could quite put into words. Just as Soobin opened his mouth to fire back, Kai, who had been watching the escalating exchange with a mix of amusement and exasperation, finally stepped in, raising his hands in a diplomatic gesture.

"Hey, hey—no need to turn this into a showdown," Kai said, his voice light but firm as he cast a knowing look between them. "Remember, we're here for Beomgyu. He's the one who needs us right now, not whatever... unresolved stuff you two have going on."

Taehyun's gaze softened momentarily as he glanced back at Beomgyu, who sat still, clutching his hands in his lap, looking both lost and exhausted. But the smirk returned as he looked back at Soobin. "Alright, I'm not saying the club is the only answer here," he conceded with a shrug, "but a little fun never hurt anyone. And don't think I haven't noticed how allergic you are to it, by the way."

Soobin huffed, unable to hide the grin that finally broke through. "I have fun... in my own way," he said with mock dignity, lifting his chin.

"Oh, sure," Taehyun shot back, rolling his eyes as he nudged Soobin playfully. "Is 'fun' for you organizing your files alphabetically? Reviewing inventory logs?"

Soobin leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a low, teasing tone. "Or maybe my idea of fun is watching people like you try to get under my skin and fail miserably," he said, his smirk widening.

Kai chuckled, shaking his head. "And here I thought we were here for Beomgyu," he interrupted, sighing with a laugh. "Can you two save this... for another time?"

Both Taehyun and Soobin looked away, Soobin crossing his arms with a faint smile, and Taehyun chuckling under his breath. "One day, you'll realize I'm right, Soobin. And when you do, I'll be the first to say 'I told you so,'" Taehyun muttered, his tone light but the look in his eyes serious.

Soobin's smirk lingered as he cast one last glance at Taehyun. "I wouldn't hold your breath, Taehyun."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the tension eased Kai suggested something with a mischievous glint in his eye. "Alright, since we're all clearly too uptight for clubbing," he said, casting an amused look at Soobin, "let's bring the party here. We'll keep it low-key. A mini party, just the four of us."

Soobin's skeptical look softened as he watched Beomgyu, who seemed lost in thought but gave a small nod. A spark of excitement spread between them, and soon, the table was laden with a mix of every alcohol they had managed to gather from around the house.

Taehyun grinned as he poured various drinks into mismatched glasses, mixing tequila with soju and vodka, whiskey with white wine, adding a chaotic energy to the assortment of drinks. "Alright, we're doing this proper," he said, handing out the glasses. "Each round, we ask a question, and if you don't want to answer, you drink."

Kai held up a glass, laughing. "I'll start us off. What's the most embarrassing thing you've done to impress someone?"

Taehyun raised an eyebrow, immediately downing his drink with a mischievous smile, leaving the others to guess at his answer. Soobin rolled his eyes but was clearly intrigued. "Alright, my turn," Taehyun said, tapping his fingers on his glass with a smirk. "Soobin, have you ever had a crush on someone in this room?"

Soobin's face turned slightly pink, and he shot a glare in Taehyun's direction, feeling cornered. But he smirked, deflecting smoothly. "Nice try, Taehyun," he said, taking a large gulp of his drink without answering. The room erupted into laughter, Kai whistling while Taehyun leaned back with a satisfied look.

As the drinks flowed, the game grew sillier. They made absurd concoctions—blue liquor mixed with rum, whiskey and Alcopops, whatever combinations came to mind. Eventually, Beomgyu joined in, laughing as he downed a strong smelling and tasting mix, his eyes lighting up in a way none of them had seen in weeks. The sight filled Soobin with a deep sense of relief.

"Alright," Beomgyu said, a little tipsy as he looked at Kai with a mischievous gleam. "Kai, who do you think is the most annoying person here?"

Kai laughed, looking around as he pretended to think hard. "Easy. Definitely Taehyun. He's the one mixing all these nightmare drinks."

Taehyun held up his glass, unfazed. "Hey, no one's forcing you to drink them," he retorted with a grin. "But you're all clearly having a great time, so you're welcome."

The night grew warmer as the laughter continued, stories flowing along with the drinks. At some point, Soobin leaned back, smiling at Taehyun, though he'd never admit that the tipsy glow in his cheeks was more than just the alcohol. For once, they were just friends, just family, sharing a night where the worries of the world felt a little lighter.

Beomgyu, noticing the banter between Soobin and Taehyun, smirked knowingly and nudged Kai. "You know," he whispered, "maybe I'm not the only one who needed this little break."

Kai laughed, nudging Beomgyu back. "You're probably right." And as they watched Soobin and Taehyun trade playful jabs over another drink, there was no doubt this mini-party was exactly what they all needed.
