" Come here," the angel whispered to her team captain.
The dark-haired angel slowly straddled the blonde woman. Their bodies were pressed together, their breath deep and slow. Their eyes never left each other. They kept quiet and still, appreciating their little moment and the clarity that came with it.
The two angels shared a special bond. Everybody knew it, it was a well-known fact among the Angel species. Their battalion had aimed for glory, had carried epic fights and won multiple wars. The dark-haired angel was the captain, leading her subordinates into courageous battles, always making sure they were safe and sound. She was a great captain, the best captain in fact.
The blonde angel was her right hand, her best friend, her confidante, her Gemini and her lover. The captain's pain was hers and so was the sadness, the fear, the joy...
The blonde pushed dark strands of hair away from the calm face of her lover. Their eyes could hold a conversation on their own, they almost never had to talk to convey the message they wanted the other angel to know.
Their noses rubbed softly together, teasing each other, always on the verge of kissing before retreating. The room was quiet and reassuring. They had left the jungle that was their victory ball. The music seemed too loud, the ballroom too crowded and the flowery smell too intense. They only needed each other to celebrate their return back home with everyone alive.
The moment was cozy. The blonde woman laid down on the bed, her long curls falling around her head on the silk pillow. The captain of the battalion followed her movement and laid her head on the blonde's chest. She focused on the lovely sound of the beating heart in her lover's chest. The pace was slow and steady, showing just how the blonde woman felt at ease with the brunette in her arms. Whenever they were together, they felt complete. They just needed to see or touch each other to make everything seem so easy and insignificant.
The two angels were about to fall asleep tangled together when a white light flashed in the small bedroom. A soft and repetitive beeping sound echoed in the complex. The captain rose to her feet, helping her Gemini up as their horrified faces turned to each other. There was not supposed to be another incident so soon. They had closed the last gate that same morning.
They could not wait any longer. It was an urgent matter. They both rushed out, running to the armoury. Their steps were loud in the empty hallways, seeing everyone had previously been celebrating their successful mission on the other side of the base.
As they ran, the captain pulled her long brown hair up in a ponytail and following her example, the blonde started to braid her own hair. Their team was already starting to change into their armour. The sentinels were quiet and precise. They did not get in each other's way. It was a routine they had rapidly taken after years of getting ready for battle together. When they stepped into the round armoury, the captain fast-walked to her spot and changed her long white dress for her white armour. It was shiny, proof it had been recently polished, and metal flower ornaments were meticulously welded to the front. Her blade was on its display unit and slowly lit up in a white glow the closer the brunette got to it. The hum of the energy vibrated in her palm as soon as it made contact with her skin. There was a warm and nice feeling of well-being that rushed over her body when she held her sword. The purity it emitted was enough to pull the captain into a focused and confident state. She felt ready to face the demons.
The blonde was also ready, her metallic blue armour on and her two blades in hands. The sentinels exchanged a determining look. The brunette nodded before walking to the exit, her team following right after as they made their way to the portal. The round portal was a blurry reddish wall. They could not see exactly what they were going to face on the other side, but they knew Hell was at their door.
