“Mukku kaha gayi hogi?” Anuj’s voice was barely a whisper, his heart racing.
Anupama tried to calm him, though she herself felt the fear creeping in. “Anuj, yahan nahi dikh rahi hai, bahar dhoondhte hain,” she replied softly, holding his hand as they began searching the house, calling her name.
They looked in the guest room, the balcony, and even the garden. Just when they were about to lose hope, a faint clinking sound led them to the kitchen. They entered cautiously, and there she was— Mukku was by the stove, her hair tied back, sleeves rolled up, as she stirred a pot of tea. Beside her, the tawa sizzled with freshly made parathas, filling the kitchen with a warm aroma.
Mukku looked up, surprised, but she offered them a soft smile. “Good morning, bhai, Jai shri krishan bhabhi,” she greeted, her voice calm, almost serene.
Anuj couldn’t hide the concern in his voice. “Bacchi… tum theek ho na? Kal raat ke baad tumhe room me na dekh kar hum darr gaye the.”
Mukku looked down, her eyes reflecting a hint of sadness but also a determination. “Main bas... tum dono ke liye kuch banana chahti thi,” she replied, glancing shyly at Anupama. “Aur bhabhi ke liye bhi… kal raat unhone mere liye jo kiya, uska shukriya kahin bhi kam na pad jaye.”
Anupama’s heart softened, and she took Mukku’s hands in hers. “Mukku, tum mere liye bilkul mere baccho ke jaisi ho. Tumhara khayal rakhna mera farz hai. Bas ye yaad rakhna ke hum tumhare saath hain, hamesha.”
Anuj felt a wave of relief wash over him, but he still wanted Mukku to be happy, to find the peace she deserved. He spoke up gently, “Bacchi, shayad tumhe apne doston se milne jaana chahiye. Kuch time unke saath waqt bitaane se shayad tumhe acha lage.”
Mukku looked thoughtful, nodding slowly. “Haan bhai, shayad yeh sahi rahega. Lekin tum dono ke saath ye waqt bitaana bhi mujhe bahut achha lagta hai.”
Anupama shared a warm smile with her. “Jab bhi tumhe zaroorat ho, hum tumhare saath hain, Mukku.”

MaAn's Room :
Back in their room, Anuj turned to Anupama, his eyes full of gratitude and affection. “Anu, tumne jo Mukku ke liye kiya... uske liye main tumhara shukriya kaise ada karoon?”
Anupama smiled, a faint blush rising on her cheeks. “Anuj, ye mera farz tha. Mukku meri bhi zimmedari hai. Usne kitna kuch jhela hai... agar main uski madad kar sakti hoon, toh usmein shukriya ki zaroorat nahi hai.”
Anuj reached for her hand, holding it gently. “Anu, tumhe dekh kar mujhe lagta hai ke kahnaji ne tumhe mere liye hi bheja hai. Tumne sirf Mukku ka hi nahi, mera bhi khayal rakha hai. Shukriya toh mujhe tumhe kehna chahiye... mere zindagi mein aane ke liye.”
Anupama felt a warm bloom in her chest, feeling the sincerity in his words. A soft silence settled between them as they looked into each other's eyes, a silent prayer of gratitude passing between them, thanking the universe for bringing them together in this moment. In that quiet room, they both realized they were not only bound by duty, but by a bond that was slowly strengthening with each shared moment.
Soon they were disturbed by Mukku's sudden voice, " Bhai main GK ke saath office jaa rahi hu.... Wahi milti hu aap dono se... ".
" Theek hai... ", replied Anuj .
