The glimmering lights of the stage faded as Reneé Rapp stepped off, her heart still racing from the adrenaline of the performance. The cheers of the crowd echoed in her mind, but as she walked backstage, a familiar heaviness settled in her chest. She was used to the spotlight, the applause, the thrill of being adored. But tonight, it felt different.
Y/N was waiting for her in their dressing room, the door slightly ajar. The soft hum of music played in the background, but Y/N's silence cut through the sound like a whisper. Reneé pushed the door open, her heart sinking at the sight before her.
Y/N sat curled up on the couch, her knees pulled to her chest, staring out the window at the city lights. The glow illuminated her face, but the spark in her eyes was dimmed, clouded by a storm of emotions.
"Hey, beautiful," Reneé said gently, stepping inside. She could see the tension in Y/N's shoulders, the way her hands trembled slightly. "How have you been?"
Y/N turned her gaze toward Reneé, forcing a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "Just tired, I guess."
Reneé's heart ached at the sight. She crossed the room and sat beside Y/N, taking her hand in hers. "You don't have to pretend with me. What's really going on?"
Y/N hesitated, biting her lip as she searched for the right words. "It's just... everything feels overwhelming. I don't know how to keep up with it all, with you being... you know, famous."
Reneé squeezed her hand, her voice soft but firm. "You're not just a girlfriend to a famous person. You're Y/N, and you matter so much to me, no matter what else is happening."
Tears glimmered in Y/N's eyes as she leaned into Reneé, seeking comfort in her warmth. "I feel like I'm always in the background, like I don't belong in this world."
Reneé wrapped her arms around Y/N, pulling her close. "You belong with me. I know it's hard sometimes, but I need you to see how incredible you are. You're not just part of my life; you're my life."
Y/N buried her face in Reneé's shoulder, the familiar scent of her shampoo offering a sense of safety. "But it's so easy to feel invisible when everyone's watching you, Reneé. I don't want to take away your spotlight."
Reneé tilted Y/N's chin up gently, their eyes locking. "You could never take away my spotlight. You're the one who shines in my life. I want to share all of this with you, not just the glamor but the hard parts too."
Y/N nodded, but her tears began to flow freely. "I just don't know how to handle it all. Some days, it feels like I'm drowning in my own insecurities."
"Then let me help you swim," Reneé whispered, brushing her fingers through Y/N's hair. "We can face this together. You don't have to carry it alone."
They settled deeper into the couch, Reneé holding Y/N tightly as the world outside continued to buzz with life. The rain began to fall softly against the window, a calming rhythm that matched the steady beat of Reneé's heart.
"I'm here," Reneé murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to Y/N's forehead. "Whenever you need me. I'll always be here."
Y/N let out a shaky breath, the weight of her worries feeling a little lighter in Reneé's embrace. It wasn't a fix, but it was a start—a promise of togetherness in the midst of chaos.
As the minutes stretched into hours, Y/N finally broke the silence. "Sometimes I feel like I'm just watching your life from the sidelines. You're out there, captivating everyone, and I'm here, feeling lost."
Reneé pulled back slightly, her eyes searching Y/N's. "You think I don't see you? Every time I look out into that crowd, I'm looking for you. You're the one person who makes all of this worth it."
"But what if I'm not enough?" Y/N whispered, her voice trembling. "What if you find someone who fits better into this world?"
Reneé shook her head vehemently. "That will never happen. You are enough. You've always been enough for me. Your strength, your kindness—those are the things I love most about you. I don't need someone who fits the mold; I need you."
Y/N felt a surge of emotion at those words. "But I get so scared sometimes. Scared that I'm holding you back or that you'll get tired of my doubts."
"Y/N," Reneé said, cupping her face with tender hands. "We all have doubts. It's part of being human. But you're not holding me back. You're a part of my journey. We're in this together."
Y/N took a deep breath, the warmth of Reneé's palms grounding her. "I want to believe that. I really do."
"Then let me show you," Reneé replied softly. She leaned closer, their foreheads touching. "Close your eyes. Just breathe."
Y/N obeyed, focusing on the steady rhythm of her breath and the warmth radiating from Reneé. Slowly, she began to feel a sense of calm wash over her, the worries slipping away like the rain outside.
"Imagine a place where you feel completely safe," Reneé guided her, her voice like a soothing melody. "A place where nothing else matters, just you and me."
Y/N envisioned a serene landscape, filled with soft grass and a gentle breeze. In this world, her insecurities faded, replaced by the laughter and love they shared.
"Can you see it?" Reneé asked gently.
"Yes," Y/N whispered, a small smile breaking through her tears. "It's beautiful."
"That's where I want you to be, always," Reneé said, pulling back to look into Y/N's eyes again. "You don't have to put on a brave face for me. I love you for who you are, the beautiful mess of emotions and all."
Y/N leaned in, resting her forehead against Reneé's once more. "Thank you for always being patient with me. I don't know what I'd do without you."
"You'll never have to find out," Reneé promised, wrapping her arms around Y/N once more. "I'm not going anywhere."
As they held each other, Y/N felt the storm inside her begin to quiet. With each heartbeat, she found a sense of belonging in the embrace of the woman who lit up her world, even when the shadows threatened to creep in.
In that moment, under the soft glow of the dressing room lights and the distant sound of the city, Y/N realized that she didn't have to navigate this journey alone. With Reneé by her side, she could face the insecurities, the fears, and the uncertainties.
Together, they would create a life filled with love, laughter, and the understanding that even in the darkest times, the light of their connection would guide them through.
