The office was buzzing with excitement as everyone prepared for the annual company gala that evening. It was a night for networking, celebration, and letting loose, but for Maya, it was just another event to endure. She wasn’t one for parties, especially not ones filled with her colleagues. But tonight, something felt different, and the tension she’d felt around Aryan all week wasn’t helping.

After their intense exchange in the conference room, Maya had been careful to avoid him. She could still feel the weight of his gaze and the fire that his words had ignited within her. But she couldn’t afford to let herself get lost in feelings she couldn’t control. Not when it came to Aryan.

When she arrived at the venue, a grand ballroom with chandeliers sparkling overhead, Maya was greeted with the sight of colleagues dressed to the nines. She mingled politely, making small talk and hoping to avoid Aryan. But just as she was beginning to feel at ease, she felt a familiar presence behind her.

“Maya,” Aryan’s deep voice washed over her, sending an involuntary shiver down her spine.

She turned, her breath catching as she took him in. Dressed in a sleek black tuxedo, Aryan looked even more striking than usual. His gaze was intense, and there was something different in his expression—a softness she hadn’t seen before.

“Aryan,” she greeted, her voice steady, though her heart raced.

They exchanged a few polite words, but the undercurrent of tension was impossible to ignore. Aryan’s gaze kept lingering on her, his eyes tracing the curve of her dress, and Maya found herself drawn to him in a way she couldn’t deny. She needed a moment to breathe, to escape his magnetic pull.

Just as she was about to excuse herself, Aryan reached out, gently taking her hand. “Dance with me.”

It wasn’t a question, and Maya felt her pulse quicken at the request. Part of her wanted to refuse, to put distance between them, but the other part—the part that yearned for his touch—won out.

He led her onto the dance floor, his hand resting on her waist, pulling her close. The music was slow, the lights dim, and Maya found herself melting into his embrace, unable to resist the way he made her feel. They moved in silence, their eyes locked, and Maya could feel her resolve slipping with each passing second.

“You can’t keep running from this, Maya,” Aryan murmured, his voice low and intense.

Maya’s heart raced. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Aryan’s hand tightened on her waist, his gaze piercing. “You know exactly what I mean. This… whatever it is between us. You feel it too.”

Maya swallowed, her throat dry. She wanted to deny it, to tell him he was wrong, but the truth was, she couldn’t. The attraction between them was undeniable, and in that moment, she didn’t want to fight it anymore.

Without another word, Aryan leaned down, his lips capturing hers in a slow, tender kiss. The world around them disappeared as they lost themselves in each other, the weight of their rivalry and tension melting away. For once, Maya let herself be vulnerable, surrendering to the feelings she had tried so hard to bury.

But as the kiss deepened, reality came crashing back. Maya pulled away, her heart pounding as she looked up at Aryan, her mind spinning. She had crossed a line, and there was no going back.

“I… I can’t do this,” she whispered, stepping back, her voice shaky.

Aryan’s expression softened, his eyes filled with understanding, but also something else—something deeper. “Then why do you keep coming back to me, Maya?”

Maya didn’t have an answer. She turned and walked away, leaving Aryan standing alone on the dance floor, her heart heavy with confusion and longing
