"You remember the rules, right?" Jihyo asked as she put the car in park. "Tell us again what they are tonight."

"Walk with you and mom, always say trick or treat, and say please and thank you." Your seven-year-old daughter Bella said.

You nodded and Jihyo took the keys out of the ignition before looking into the rearview mirror with a smile.

"Well, come on then. Let's go get you lots of candy!"

Bella didn't need to be told again as she waited impatiently for you to come open the door for her.

Once you did, she excitedly got out of the car with her pillowcase in her hand.

"When it gets too heavy, let us know and we'll carry it for you."

"Okay."

This wasn't her first time trick or treating, far from it.

But this year she was extremely excited about it, more than ever before.

Jihyo held your hand as you walked closely behind her and stood in front of the first house on the block.

"Go up there." You encouraged with a smile.

She ran up the walkway and the steps before knocking on the door.

It opened a second later and an elderly woman stood at the door with a bucket full of candy.

"Trick or treat!"

"What are you this Halloween?" She kindly asked, to which Bella excitedly said,

"A fairy."

"That's so cool. Here you go. Happy Halloween!" She said as she put a few pieces of candy in the pillowcase.

"Thank you!"

She ran down the steps as more kids went up.

"What did you get?" You asked curiously.

"Chocolate and suckers!"

"Awesome!" Jihyo grinned before you took a few more steps together, up to the next house.

Bella ran up and said those three words once more as the door opened.

"Pick three."

Bella took her time searching through the many options before picking out some m&m's, a strawberry sucker, and some gum.

"Happy Halloween."

"Thank you!" She happily said before running back down to you and Jihyo.

The next house had their light off so you skipped over that one before she went up the steps to yet another house.

She got a Milky Way, a mini Hershey's bar, and some Smarties before she thanked them and came back down the steps.

"She's going to have so much energy for the next few weeks."

Jihyo laughed.

"She already has a ton of energy. This is just going to add to it."

You grinned and followed behind Bella as she went up to a few more houses.

About twenty minutes later, she finished one side of the block and started on the other side.

Her pillowcase was already getting heavy so you and Jihyo had to start going up to the houses with her as Jihyo carried it for her.

"What do you say?" Jihyo asked as another elderly woman put a few pieces of candy in the pillowcase, giving her a few extra.

"Thank you!"

"You're very welcome."

Jihyo chuckled and walked down the steps with her before you took the pillowcase and went up to the next one.

You repeated the cycle for another fifteen or so minutes until the pillowcase was almost full and she'd gone up to almost every house.

"Are you ready to go home?"

"No way!" Bella replied and you and Jihyo laughed as the three of you got in the car.

"Okay, how about this? One more block but only a few houses. Your pillowcase is almost full to the top and it's getting pretty heavy. You'll have enough candy to get you by until next Halloween so I don't think you need much more." Jihyo said and Bella nodded.

"Okay."

She drove around for a couple of minutes to find a block with only a few lights lit up so Bella wouldn't get too carried away and throw a tantrum if she couldn't go up to all of them.

Once she found one, she put the car in park and you all got out again.

"Only a few houses so choose carefully, alright?" You said.

Bella agreed before going up the steps to the first house.

"My legs are so sore." You said as you stepped on a few leaves beneath your shoes. "But it's always worth it if it means she's this happy."

"I agree," Jihyo said as she pulled you closer and gave you a loving kiss on your forehead. "I love you."

"I love you too."

You shared a quick kiss before she came down and handed you the few pieces of candy that she got so you could toss them into the pillowcase.

And even though you were getting tired and your legs and feet hurt from so much walking, you wouldn't complain too much.

You and Jihyo live for seeing her this happy.

She's only a kid for so long and she only gets so many years to trick or treat and you and Jihyo wanted her to enjoy every single one of them the best she could.
