POV CHARLOTTE
The moment I stepped down to the pool area, I knew Engfa wasn't bluffing when she said this was going to be an incredible night.
Especially when, right above the floating lounge, I caught sight of Alycia lounging casually, her hair glistening in the soft light, while Engfa swam just below her, splashing her playfully.
They were locked in a game of teasing; Engfa would dip just below the surface and then suddenly pop up, sending water flying everywhere. Alycia shrieked with laughter, leaning in closer, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
It felt like they were the only two people in the world, caught in their own bubble of flirtation.
Engfa shot a playful grin at Alycia, who responded by pushing her away gently, only for Engfa to grab her wrist and pull her back, their faces inches apart. The air felt thick around me. I quickly glanced away, trying to shake off the sudden tightness in my chest.
As I stood there, lost in my own thoughts, a few uniformed waiters passed by, moving between the house and the pool area. I shifted my gaze toward the edge of the pool, where a few chefs were arranging plates and utensils. The waitstaff began setting up a long, white table, meticulously laying out dishes and drinks that looked straight out of a magazine.
Then, Apo's voice rang out from the pool, snapping me back. "Charlotte! Get over here!"
I smiled and walked to the edge, dipping my feet into the water. It was cool and soothing against my skin. Snack, who was splashing around with Patcha, immediately swam over, grabbing my hand with an excited grin.
"Come on in! It's no fun with you just sitting there," she insisted, practically pulling me in.
I laughed-this kid was always so full of energy. Without a second thought, I let myself slip into the pool, the water closing over me as I went under.
When I resurfaced, Faye and another woman I didn't recognize were already swimming my way.
"Char, meet Yoko, my girlfriend," Faye said, gesturing toward the woman with a warm smile.
Huh? I was taken aback.
I didn't know this player had a girlfriend.
But then I remembered what Engfa had told me-if she was being honest, of course-about Faye and Patcha having fun with some girls at the club the night Engfa came back to the hotel drunk in Bangkok. If Faye could be that casual, maybe Engfa was too.
This was definitely interesting.
I gave Yoko a friendly nod. "Hi! I'm Charlotte."
She grinned back. "Yoko. I already know... we actually went to the same college. You were my senior in the same program at Yale."
For a moment, I was caught off guard. I didn't really remember her-probably because back in college, I was always buried in my studies or keeping to myself, especially after that chaotic breakup with Engfa.
"Oh... sorry if I didn't notice you back then," I said, offering a small, apologetic smile.
She chuckled softly, brushing it off. "No biggie. I get it; you're really smart, though. You probably spent more time with your nose in a book than looking around," she joked playfully.
Snack quickly chimed in with her usual sass, "Really? So serious! I mean, even I wasn't that cut off from the world."
I laughed along with her, then refocused on Faye, curiosity bubbling up inside me. "Faye, I didn't know you had a girlfriend! How long have you two been together?" I asked with a light smile.
