Orm's pov
Sunlight streamed through the tall windows of the bridal suite, casting a warm glow across the room. My wedding dress hung on the wall, delicate and perfect, a vision of soft white lace that felt both elegant and personal—like something that had been waiting for me. I took a steadying breath, feeling the flutter of nerves mixed with excitement settle in my stomach. Today was the day. Today, I was going to marry Ling.
Becky was the first to arrive, carrying a small box of hairpins and her phone, already buzzing with notifications from our friends. "Bride-to-be!" she announced with a grin as she walked in, closing the door with a dramatic flourish. She set the box on the table and eyed the dress. "Wow. That dress is amazing, Orm. It's so you."
I smiled, feeling my cheeks flush with excitement. "Thanks, Becky. It... it feels real now, you know? Like this is actually happening."
She gave me a reassuring squeeze on the arm. "You're about to marry the woman of your dreams. Nerves and all, you're glowing. Now, let's get you ready."
Just as I was about to sit down, the door opened again, and Yoko and Charlotte stepped in, both carrying bouquets of flowers and looking almost as excited as I felt. Yoko's eyes went straight to the dress, and she let out a small gasp. "Orm, you look incredible already—and you're not even dressed yet!"
I laughed, grateful for their support. They'd been there every step of the way, through the planning, the endless details, and now, here they were, helping me through these final moments before the biggest day of my life.
Becky motioned for me to sit in front of the mirror, and she began working on my hair, brushing it out and styling it with soft, elegant curls. As she worked, Yoko laid out the jewelry Ling had gifted me—a delicate gold necklace and a pair of pearl earrings. They sparkled gently in the sunlight, each piece a reminder of Ling's thoughtfulness and love.
Charlotte joined in, arranging the flowers they'd brought on the table to add some extra brightness to the room. "Ling is going to lose it when she sees you," she said, her voice soft and filled with pride. "I mean, you're going to blow her away, Orm."
The thought made my heart skip a beat, and I felt a rush of warmth. I could picture Ling, standing at the altar, that steady gaze of hers softening as she looked at me. I wanted to see that look again, the one she reserved just for me, where all the intensity she carried melted into something so pure and tender.
"Alright," Becky said, stepping back to admire her handiwork. "Hair's done, and you look like a goddess."
Yoko stepped forward, holding up the necklace. "Here, let me help you put this on."
I turned slightly, feeling the cool metal against my skin as Yoko clasped the necklace. I glanced in the mirror, catching my reflection, and a swell of emotion filled my chest. It was strange to see myself like this, dressed in a way that made me feel beautiful and powerful, like I was stepping into a new role.
Becky placed the veil delicately over my curls, arranging it so it draped perfectly over my shoulders. She gave a satisfied nod. "You look stunning, Orm. Really."
"Thanks," I said, my voice catching slightly. I could feel the emotions bubbling up, a mixture of excitement, love, and a bit of disbelief that this day had finally arrived.
Then, with a deep breath, I stood and moved toward the dress. Charlotte helped me slip into it, her fingers gentle as she fastened the back. I felt the soft fabric settle around me, fitting like it was made just for me. I smoothed the front, running my fingers over the lace, feeling a rush of anticipation as I realized that, in just a short while, I'd be walking down the aisle toward Ling.
When I turned around, my friends' expressions were enough to bring tears to my eyes. Becky's mouth was slightly open, her eyes shining with emotion. Yoko pressed a hand to her heart, and Charlotte gave me a gentle smile, her own eyes misty.
"You're beautiful, Orm," Yoko whispered, her voice filled with warmth. "I can't believe this is happening. You're really getting married."
I blinked back the tears threatening to fall, feeling the full weight of their love and support. "I couldn't have done this without you guys," I said, my voice thick with emotion.
"That's what friends are for," Charlotte replied softly, giving my hand a reassuring squeeze. "Now, are you ready to go marry the love of your life?"
The words sent a thrill through me, and I nodded, my heart swelling with joy. "I'm ready," I said, barely able to contain the excitement in my voice.
Just then, there was a gentle knock at the door. It was my mother, Mae Koi, peeking in with a soft smile. She stepped inside, her eyes sweeping over me, taking in the sight with an expression that was both proud and touched.
"Oh, Orm," she murmured, her eyes filling with tears as she took my hands in hers. "You look absolutely breathtaking."
I felt a tear slip down my cheek as I hugged her tightly. "Thanks, Mom," I whispered. "I'm so glad you're here with me."
She pulled back, brushing the tear from my cheek, and gave me a warm smile. "Your father would be so proud of you," she said softly. "And so am I."
Her words settled over me, grounding me, and I nodded, feeling the love of my family and friends surround me. "Thank you, Mom."
As she stepped back, Becky handed me the bouquet—an arrangement of soft, white lilies and blush roses, delicate and elegant. I took a deep breath, taking in the scent of the flowers, and with one last look at my friends, I squared my shoulders, feeling ready to take the biggest step of my life.
The moment had finally arrived.
My mother led me to the entrance, where we would start the procession. I could feel my heart pounding, but it wasn't nerves—it was pure, unfiltered excitement. I could barely wait to see Ling, to meet her at the altar and make the vows we had both been waiting for.
The music began, a gentle, melodic tune that filled the air. I looked up, the aisle stretching before me, and at the end, standing with a calm, steady presence, was Ling. She looked incredible, her expression softening as her eyes found mine. She smiled—a smile that seemed to carry a thousand promises, a smile that felt like home.
With each step I took down the aisle, surrounded by the faces of those I loved, my gaze never left hers. The world seemed to fall away, leaving just the two of us, bound by the love we'd built and the future we were stepping into together. When I finally reached her, Ling's hand reached out, warm and solid as she took mine, and everything felt complete.
"Ready?" she whispered, her voice barely audible.
I smiled, my heart full as I nodded. "More than ever."
And as we stood together, about to begin this new chapter, I knew that there was nowhere else I would rather be.
