Australia 27th January 2019
Emma arrived at the paddock, adjusting her media pass, when she spotted Kika waving excitedly from across the way.
She hurried over, and they met in a tight hug, laughing like they hadn't seen each other in ages—even though it had only been a few days.
"Oh my god, it's been forever!" Emma exclaimed.
Kika laughed. "I know, right? I swear, two days without you feels like two weeks. You missed all the drama! I have so much to tell you."
Emma raised an eyebrow. "Oh, I'm sure. Let me guess, another mystery romance blossoming on the grid?"
Kika rolled her eyes, "You know me too well. But wait, I got you something!"
She reached into her bag,"I saw it and immediately thought of you."
Emma tilted her head in curiosity as Kika pulled out a small, delicate blue bracelet with a charm. The charm had a little "E" engraved on it, simple but beautiful.
"It's for you," Kika said, "And look, I got one with a 'K' for myself. So, we're always kind of connected, even when we're on opposite sides of the world or running around the paddock."
"Kika, it's so cute! I love it," she said, slipping it on. "You didn't have to, but I'm so glad you did. Now I'll have a little piece of you with me all the time."
Kika beamed, "Please, like I could resist. Besides, every time you look at it, you'll think of me."
Emma laughed. "Yeah, probably rolling my eyes at how sappy you're being right now."
"Oh, don't even pretend you're not tearing up a little," Kika teased, "You're going soft on me, Emma."
Emma shook her head, "Maybe just a bit. But don't tell anyone, alright? I have a reputation to uphold."
As they walked off together, Emma couldn't help but feel grateful for moments like these— but she also felt guilty for not having told Kika about Max yet.
After a whirlwind day filled with interviews, press releases, and media obligations, Emma finally made it back to her hotel room.
She kicked off her heels with a sigh, glancing at the clock.
She didn't have much time to get ready if she was going to make it to this little get-together Max had invited her to.
When she made her way downstairs, she was startled to find a sleek black Rolls Royce waiting at the curb.
The driver opened the door for her, and she slid inside, her eyes widening as she took in the plush interior. "He's really going all out," she muttered under her breath.
As the car pulled up to the pub, she stepped out, glancing around before heading towards the door.
It was a low-key place, not at all the glitzy scene she'd expected. She walked up to the guy at the door, hoping her name was actually on the list.
"Hi, Emma," she said, "I should be on the guest list."
The bouncer nodded, flipping through the pages of names as she waited, feeling a bit out of place.
Just then, a familiar voice called out from behind her.
"If it isn't the mystery club girl herself!"
Emma turned around, "Daniel Ricciardo?" she asked,"What are you doing here?"
"Shouldn't I be asking you that? Didn't think you were the 'going out with drivers' type," he teased, giving her a playful nudge.
She laughed,"Well, I'm full of surprises, Daniel."
