Italy 6th March 2019
Kika had officially found out about Max and Emma, and, honestly, Emma was relieved.
It was getting exhausting having only her best friend—who lived on the other side of the world—to talk to about Max during race weekends.
The next day, Kika even showed up with the cutest little charm, a delicate silver "M" that she clipped right onto Emma's bracelet, giving her a wink as she did.
"For when you're being sneaky," Kika had said, "And just in case you need a reminder that I know."
Emma liked the charm; it was almost like Kika's own little seal of approval on their not-so-secret secret.
Now, the day was winding down after FP2, and both Emma and Max were beyond exhausted.
The Italy crowd had been relentless, with Ferrari fans chanting and waving flags at every turn.
Emma had practically needed earplugs just to make it down the paddock without getting a headache.
Max had spent most of the afternoon pretending not to hear her complaining about it, shooting her these amused looks as she grumbled about the "sea of red."
"Don't worry, one day they'll all be in blue," he teased, wrapping an arm around her shoulders as they finally made their way back to his hotel room.
"Yeah, yeah," she said, leaning into him. "One can dream."
As they pushed open the door to his room, Emma was already mentally planning a lazy night of ordering room service, finding a movie, and just curling up with Max until they both fell asleep.
But as soon as she stepped inside, standing right there in the middle of Max's hotel room was a striking blonde, who looked like she'd just stepped off the cover of a magazine.
"Oh my god, you're finally here!" the blonde practically squealed.
Emma barely had a second to process what was happening before Max's face lit up, and he went straight over to the blonde, pulling her into a hug.
A very enthusiastic hug.
And then a kiss on the cheek.
Emma blinked, a bit taken aback as she stood awkwardly by the door.
She tried not to read too much into it, but...
The cheek kiss?
That was... something.
"Oh, it's been too long!" Max said pulling back.
Emma cleared her throat, folding her arms and trying to keep her expression neutral.
Not that she was feeling jealous—okay, maybe just a little bit—but who was this mysterious blonde that Max was so excited to see?
Finally, Max seemed to remember Emma was there, and he turned, looking way too casual about it all.
As Max continued talking to the blonde, completely lost in conversation, Emma stood frozen near the door, feeling a weird twinge in her chest she couldn't shake off.
Finally, unable to stand there in silence any longer, Emma cleared her throat.
Loudly.
Max looked over, "Oh! Emma, uh—this is Victoria."
Emma blinked, "Victoria..."
Max gave her a funny look. "No, no. Victoria's my sister."
Emma's face flushed. "Sister? You're his sister? Like... sister, sister?" She rambled, "Oh, wow, okay, yeah, makes sense. Sister. Just... his sister. Totally knew that."
