Emma's last day on the job felt like a victory lap.All week, she'd been on fire, pulling in interviews with drivers no one could touch, writing pieces that went viral within hours, and stealing the spotlight during press conferences.
Everywhere she turned, there was a new opportunity knocking on her door.
Offers flooded her inbox—major news networks, exclusive magazine deals, even a few lucrative PR gigs.
She could almost hear Richard Bailey groaning in regret somewhere in the distance.
Emma adjusted the mic clipped to her dress and smoothed her notes one last time.
The cameras were rolling, and the bright lights felt a little less intimidating today.
Her final post-race commentary was about to go live, and she wanted to go out on a high note.
"Lewis Hamilton takes the victory today here in Baku, reminding us all why he's a five-time world champion," she said with a polished smile.
"But the real buzz in the paddock? The swirling rumors of Pierre Gasly's swap for Alex Albon at Red Bull. Nothing confirmed yet, but if today's race showed us anything, it's that this silly season might just be the silliest we've seen in years."
She glanced at her notes, then back at the camera, "That's it for now from me, Emma Davis. Signing off one last time for—" She hesitated, "—the channel."
Lucas, who was standing just behind the cameras, gave her a thumbs-up and called, "Cut!"
Emma exhaled deeply and leaned back in her chair, letting the moment sink in.
Her job here was done.
A chapter closed.
She grabbed her phone and started scrolling, her inbox buzzing with unread messages.
Job offers flooded her email like wildfire.
Every major outlet seemed to want her, but one caught her eye in particular: Sky Sports F1—Senior Correspondent Opportunity.
She opened the email:
Subject: Exciting Opportunity with Sky Sports F1
Dear Ms. Carter,
We've been following your work this past season, and it's clear you're a force to be reckoned with in motorsport journalism. Sky Sports F1 is expanding its team, and we believe you'd be a perfect fit as our Senior Correspondent.
This role would allow you to cover Formula 1 from a global perspective, travel extensively, and work alongside some of the best in the business.
We'd love to discuss this opportunity further. Let us know a time that works for you.
Best regards,
Sarah Whitmore
Head of Recruitment, Sky SportsEmma's stomach fluttered.
Sky Sports F1.
It was the dream.
But then, a memory surfaced—Dylan. Her ex-boyfriend.
He had mentioned once, in passing, that his father had a significant stake in the company.
Did that mean Dylan could still be in her orbit?
She sighed, staring at her phone screen, when suddenly a pair of hands slid around her shoulders.
Warm lips brushed the curve of her neck, and a low, teasing voice whispered, "You miss me already?"
