The next day dawned bright and clear, but Jimin felt a heaviness settle over him as he made his way to the café where he and Jungkook had agreed to meet. The kiss from the night before lingered in his mind, a whirlwind of emotions swirling within him. Was it real? Did it mean what he wanted it to mean?As he entered the café, the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee welcomed him. Jimin spotted Jungkook at their usual table, looking effortlessly charming as he scrolled through his phone, a light smile playing on his lips. Jimin's heart fluttered at the sight, but the warmth was quickly tempered by the apprehension brewing in his stomach.
"Hey!" Jungkook called, looking up as Jimin approached. "You made it!"
"Yeah," Jimin replied, forcing a smile as he took a seat across from Jungkook. "I wouldn't miss it."
"Good. I was worried you might change your mind after last night," Jungkook said, his eyes sparkling with sincerity. "About what happened..."
Jimin held up a hand, cutting him off. "I want to talk about it, but first—how do you really feel about Soojin being around?"
Jungkook's smile faltered slightly, and he leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. "Honestly? It's complicated. She was part of my life for a long time, and I don't want to pretend she doesn't exist, but..."
"But?" Jimin prompted, sensing Jungkook's hesitation.
"But I'm not interested in rekindling anything with her," Jungkook said firmly, meeting Jimin's gaze. "I want to focus on us. I thought you understood that."
"I do, but it's hard not to feel overshadowed," Jimin admitted, the weight of his vulnerability making his chest tight. "Every time she's around, I can't help but feel insecure. I need you to be my support, especially when things get awkward."
"I get it," Jungkook replied, reaching across the table to take Jimin's hand. "I promise to be there for you. Just... give me a chance to show you."
Jimin felt a warmth spread through him at the touch, and for a moment, the worries seemed to fade. But before he could respond, the bell above the café door jingled, drawing their attention.
Soojin walked in, her presence commanding and confident. She scanned the room before her gaze landed on Jimin and Jungkook. A small, knowing smile crept across her lips, and Jimin felt his stomach churn.
"Perfect," he muttered under his breath, trying to mask the sudden spike of anxiety.
"Hey, you two!" Soojin called out, making her way toward them, her tone cheerful. "Mind if I join?"
"Uh, sure," Jungkook replied, clearly caught off guard but trying to be polite.
Jimin felt his heart race, the tension in the air thickening as Soojin slid into the seat beside Jungkook. "I just wanted to see how the party went last night! Heard it was quite the event."
"It was fun," Jungkook replied, his gaze shifting slightly as he tried to maintain a friendly tone. "We played some games, had a good time."
"Sounds like I missed out," Soojin said, her eyes glinting mischievously. "But I'm glad you two are getting along. It's nice to see you together."
Jimin forced a smile, feeling a mix of irritation and vulnerability. "Yeah, we are," he replied curtly, wanting to assert his place.
"I was actually thinking about planning another get-together," Soojin continued, undeterred. "What do you guys think? Maybe a karaoke night?"
Jimin clenched his jaw, frustration bubbling beneath the surface. "Sounds fun, but maybe we should keep it small this time?" he suggested, trying to steer the conversation away from anything that might further involve Soojin.
