Babe has never loved in his life. Cared, worried, felt affection too, but never loved in the way everyone desired to.

Charlie was an unpredicted event in his life.
More often than not he felt the urge to run away from the unfamiliar warmth and safety that Charlie by default provided just by being present.

So, he tested.

Made their relationship go through trials every chance he got, every situation he faced.

For every single challenge, he made a choice, to choose the side against Charlie, not because he doubted his puppy's love, no.

Simply because it was easier to believe that Charlie would want something better, maybe someone like Jeff, or someone with special powers, or someone who's not a damsel in distress.

Every single time without a question though, Charlie chose Babe, every single time.

Babe's insecurities still found their way to get the best of him. Blinded in rage, and aggression that masked his fears, Babe unconsciously kept pushing Charlie.

Beyond Charlie's capacity.

“It wasn't an accident, Charlie did it deliberately.”

The truth was too much, way out of Babe's league. No, he refuses to believe it.

That was a tight slap, the biggest blow he had ever faced. Charlie killed himself.
Why?
What was so devastating that he chose death. What exactly?

Was it a punishment for Babe? But why is it so cruel?

Standing in front of Operation Theatre, Babe felt as if he was dying too, and maybe he was.

His senses started enhancing, rapidly returning to Babe. Everything together all at once, Babe was losing his sanity.

And then he heard it, slowly beating Charlie's heart. It was jarring, he remembers when he still had his senses, how he loved to hear his puppy's heartbeat.

It was always a reassuring rhythm, a constant comfort that Charlie was present with Babe, in his home. As his home.

The second he heard it stop was the second his world shattered. Millions of tiny pieces, all sharp shards piercing through his skin.

His heart broke too, and in that moment Babe physically felt the cuts from the inside as well as from the outside.

He lost.

Lost the only race he never thought he had been a participant of.

Was it his negligence? Or maybe it was the indifference. Why did Babe treat Charlie like a rag when Charlie was the only warm blanket he ever had?

Within minutes of the silence of Charlie's heartbeat and minutes of the world's clamor, Babe lost consciousness.

……

Alan, Sonic, Way, North, Dean, and Jeff. Apart from Babe, these six people were also present in the hospital. Only Jeff and Babe were visibly distraught. Yes, others were worried but not the way Charlie's brother or his so-called boyfriend.

These people took my brother away from me.

Jeff bitterly thought. Five rushed to him the second Babe fell to tend to their star racer. Their actual family member.

They took Babe to another ER, leaving Jeff alone. All alone with a brother on the verge of death.

“Khun Charlie's family?” The doctor asked, breaking Jeff's chain of thoughts.
