I was never there (pitBabe) [4/8]

Jeff spent 2 days in the same clothes, without much food or water in his system, and had nightmares for power naps.

The sole reason he gave in to Alan's request was the bone-deep exhaustion that was making it hard to take care of Charlie, whatever he could do at least.

He rushed through things, taking the shortest shower of his life, eating a piece of bread he saw in the fridge (he had no idea if it was expired or not), and packing whatever clothes he saw at sight.

He did make an effort to get comfy clothes for Charlie though, not taking a chance with that.

It was recorded 45 minutes, less than an hour but the second he returned, he could feel the tense air.

Something was wrong. Definitely wrong.

The second he saw Alan, Babe, and Way pacing outside the room he knew they messed up, again.

“What happened?” He asked, trying to keep the annoyance out of his tone but failing to do so.

He wasn't happy at all.

“Charlie's heart monitor spiked up, the doctors are checking in.”

“How did it happen?”

“No one knows, we were just there. It happened out of the blue.”

“I was just there too, for the last two days. For the last time, tell me what happened or else you all can leave the hospital.

If you can't tell me what happened to my brother, then you guys are of no use.”

Babe knew what an upset Jeff could do, but that wasn't the reason for his honesty. “It was me.”

Jeff felt the hatred multiply tenfold. Why can't he catch a break?? What's so fucking hard about doing the bare minimum and letting an almost dead person be. How hard can that be?

These people were absolutely the worst.

“Why are you doing this P'Babe?” Jeff asked, his voice robotic tripping everyone else.

“I…. I didn't-”

“You didn't mean to? Yeah yeah, we all know you didn't mean to.”  Jeff scoffed.

“Now tell me why do you hate my brother so much? Is it your power? But you have them now, it can't be the race because Charlie's still a new racer. So tell me what it is?” The question was simple, at least that's what Jeff thought.

If you're dead set on making someone suffer, you have to have a solid reason right?

Babe didn't know what to say, he didn't hate Charlie, but there was no proof to testify to his love. There was no argument he could make strong enough to say he loved Charlie with conviction.

But all this didn’t mean he didn’t love Charlie, he obviously did.

“I don’t hate Charlie, I don’t.” that’s all he could say.

“THEN WHY THE HELL ARE YOU TRYING TO MURDER MY BROTHER EVERY CHANCE YOU GET.” Jeff’s voice resonated in the hospital corridor, and a nurse came out of the room nearby to give a warning.

“Jeff please calm down, no one wanted this to happen.” Way tried to soothe the youngest but it went to the vein.

“P’Way help me, I can’t be an orphan again. I lost my family once and the consequence was Tony. I cannot be orphaned again, I can’t.” Jeff begged.

Way failed to speak, he couldn’t defend Babe anymore.
On different levels, they all knew how it felt to be orphaned……. abandoned.

“I beg you all, please leave my brother alone. Let him be okay, he didn’t mean to harm anyone. I promise I’ll take him and go somewhere no one knows, we won’t even show our face to anyone, I’ll make sure of that.”
