“Jeff's right. They need to go.” Alan announced once the youngest of them returned to his brother's room.

“But uncle, they're family!” Sonic protested again, it was actually a horrifying thought to entertain. The pack was not complete without Jeff and Charlie.

“He's right, we can't just let them go.” Way added. He might have been against Babe and Charlie's relationship but after everything they've gone through, he knows Charlie is Babe's necessity, their team's necessity.

“I'm not saying we need to leave them, we need to give them space. Right now Charlie is not in the condition to be convinced of anything, Jeff knows Charlie caused the accident to kill himself, and he'll hate us more if we convince Charlie to stay. That would be selfish of us.”

Babe knew what Alan was trying to say, he was sure that their metaphorical pack leader was right. But all he could think about was Jeff's words.

“It wasn't an accident.”

“How did you convince my brother to die?”

He took full blame for Charlie's condition. His puppy has never ever thought of hurting Babe but he kept questioning his intentions.

Was he so bad at loving that his lover thought death wasn't regrettable? It was Babe's first real relationship but he couldn't make this an excuse.

Babe was a part of the X Hunter family for a long time but Charlie only had Jeff. Still, he managed to love Babe better, trust Babe better.

“What are we supposed to do then? I don't want to hurt Charlie any more than I already have, but without him, I won't survive.”

Babe felt ashamed with this confession, what right does he have to ask or even imply that he wants to be with Charlie, on what basis can he claim that he indeed loved him?

“Without them, the team won't be a team anymore,” North concluded too, but Alan understood Jeff's perspective.

“I'm not saying that we have to leave them forever, just give them the space that they need and try to win them back without crowding their personal space.

There's a rigid wall that Jeff maintains, it has gone high up again with the accident and this time he won't consider letting us in for any reason.

We can't do anything till Charlie is perfectly fine again.”

And somehow they all understood, that waiting was not their best quality but it was the only option they had.

Jeff and Charlie acted as each other’s voice of reason, without one of them, the other is unreachable.

They should have realized this long ago and they would have if they didn’t spend so much time thinking that the brothers were dating.

“But as soon as Charlie is fine, Jeff will take him away.” Dean reminded. Dean, North, and Sonic were the youngest troubled trio of the team before the arrival of Charlie and then Jeff.

Yes, Babe and Way had more face value, in front of the camera, and as star racers, they were always held on a pedestal but in the comfort of their garage, as a family Dean, North, and Sonic have always been loved and cherished the most.

When Charlie joined the team, he automatically became the subject of their forever adoration, he was just so cute, puppy-like, and always smiling like the brightest ray of sunshine.

And then Jeff arrived, with his black cat personality, going against everything Charlie was yet they fitted together like puzzle pieces, Charlie raised Jeff after all. The team secretly adored the two like babies but they failed to keep them safe.
