chapter ten

As Lydia, Celeste, Allison, and Jackson stood watching Scott and Stiles hash out their next steps, tension filled the air like static electricity. They exchanged anxious glances, the fear evident in their expressions. Jackson was the first to break the silence, his voice cutting through the uncertainty. "Okay, assheads. New plan. Stiles calls his useless dad and tells him to send someone with a gun and decent aim. We good with that?" No one spoke up to disagree, the gravity of their situation rendering them momentarily mute.

"He's right. Tell him the truth if you have to. Just call him," Scott urged, his eyes wide with a mixture of desperation and determination as he turned to Stiles, who looked torn.

Stiles shook his head vehemently, answering forcefully, "I'm not watching my dad get eaten alive." The finality in his tone was punctuated by an underlying fear that threatened to consume him.

Jackson stepped past the others, a sense of urgency propelling him forward. "That's it. Give me your phone." He spun Stiles around, reaching for the device in his pocket. But Stiles, in a moment of pure instinct, reared back and clocked Jackson, sending him sprawling to the floor with a look of sheer surprise.

Strangely, it wasn't Lydia who rushed to help him up; it was Allison. She crouched beside Jackson, her concern evident as she checked on him. "Are you okay? Jackson?" Celeste watched in confusion, wondering why Allison seemed to care so much about Jackson's well-being in the midst of their life-or-death situation.

While Allison tended to him, Jackson turned away, a smile creeping onto his face despite the circumstances. He feigned shock and hurt as he looked back at Stiles, whose reaction was completely unexpected. Lydia seemed to snap back to life at the sight of Allison covering Jackson, hurrying over to help her friend.

Stiles cradled his shaking hand, looking to Scott for support, who was just as taken aback by the sudden turn of events. Gritting his teeth against the pain, Stiles reached into his pocket and fished out his cell phone. With the others watching intently, he dialed. "Dad? Hey, it's me... and it's your voicemail. Um... I need you to call me back. Like now. Like right now—"

Just as he spoke, something slammed against the doors, causing Lydia to scream. Allison instinctively retreated to her side, while Celeste flinched, her heart racing, and accidentally took Stiles' hand in hers. For a brief moment, he tried not to freak out, smiling softly at the unexpected connection in the midst of chaos. "We're at the school—Dad—we're at the school—" Stiles continued, his voice hurried and frantic.
