A/N: Disclaimer, terrible plot. I made this over the summer. This story came to me after I had a chat with my bestie. We were imagining stuff that could happen in the future and this was based on things that happened last school year. So, I decided to write a fanfiction about this (as one naturally does).
By the way, it starts weird. I really didn't know where this story was going to go. I managed to come up with an ending. Enjoy! (Also cringe warning. I don't know what relationships are like so I took inspiration from books I read. [aka YA fantasy novels that have a hint of romance.])
Once upon a time, there was a blond-haired transphobic boy named Eric. Eric lived in an abusive household, where his parents would disown him if he ever fell into a gay marriage. Aiden always teased Eric about acting gay in class, which Eric responded by yelling insults at Aiden.
In every quarrel, Rex, the short monk man, would try to calm the situation down. Aiden would always listen since he secretly had a thing for Rex and always teased Eric about acting gay because he was insecure about his own identity. After every fight, Rex and Eric would go out for ice cream and talk things through.
Over time, Eric started feeling something for Rex, but how could he ask his best friend to be his boyfriend. Besides, he saw Rex hang out with Aiden a bit too much. He would ask his best friend about this, but he decided that he was paranoid.
For Valentine's Day, Eric decided that he would confess his feelings to Rex. It turns out that Aiden also had the same idea. At sundown, Rex went to meet up with Aiden, who set up a beautiful picnic to watch the sunset. Rex had to admit, it was really romantic, and when Aiden asked Rex to be his boyfriend, they kissed under the setting sun. Things couldn't get better, thought Rex.
Just before midnight, Rex went to see Eric, who prepared to ask Rex to be his boyfriend under the stars. He had everything prepared, the telescope, the snacks, the outfit. Everything had to go perfectly. When Rex saw everything, he was startled from all the niceties. When Eric confessed his feelings to Rex, he couldn't possibly deny him for Aiden, Eric's worst enemy. So Rex said that they could be boyfriends as long as he made all the plans. Eric didn't mind, for he thought that Rex would reject him. In the back of his mind, the voices of his parents spoke. Failure.
It's been about four months since Rex started dating Eric and Aiden. He's been planning dates with the both of them at different times. Neither boy suspected anything. They both thought that Rex belonged to them, and them alone. Eric would get pissed when Aiden got too close to Rex, and Aiden hated how Rex and Eric were best friends. He told Rex several times to cut the friendship with Eric, but Rex said no. Aiden didn't see what the big deal was.
More time passed and Eric started to suspect something was wrong with Rex. Everyday Aiden would get uncomfortably close to Rex. Eric wanted to shout at him, get away from my boyfriend, but he didn't want to make a scene in school. Everyone would know that he's gay, including Melissa and Maya.
Who are Melissa and Maya you may ask. Well, they are the two girls who have not so secret crushes on Eric. No one knows why Maya fell for Eric, but Melissa found his laugh to be the most beautiful thing on the planet. Every night before going to bed, she would replay his laugh over and over until she fell asleep. Melissa would ask him out, but she's too shy.
One day, a Friday afternoon, Aiden came to Rex. Eric was standing in the corner of the hall, watching what would happen. This was his trap. He would catch Aiden in a lie. Aiden looked around the hall, making sure that no one was there. Then, he placed a hand around Rex's shoulder. From afar, it would look like he was strangling the small monk, but Eric knew it was an affectionate touch.
Eric was boiling with anger, he almost yelled at Aiden to back off. He wasn't sure what he would have done, punch Aiden, or shove him against the wall. Just when he was about to blow his cover, a light hand touched his arm. A soft voice spoke to him, "don't bother." Melissa. One of his secret admirers.
He turned to face Melissa, putting a finger to his lips. He had to know what was going on between Aiden and Rex. He turned back to the boys. Aiden was caressing Rex lovingly and Rex seemed to lean into the touch. "How about Sunday evening," Aiden said seductively. Rex blushed at his voice. "Of course my dear." Did Rex just call Aiden dear? That's it, Eric was about to throw hands, but just as he was about to move, Melissa placed her arms around his chest, as if to hug him or restrain him. Eric desperately hoped it was the latter.
Rex and Aiden left in separate directions. Eric pulled himself out of Melissa's embrace/restraint. "Looks like your best friend is going out with your enemy," Melissa said. Eric held himself from punching her face. Before he could reply to her, his other nightmare came along. Maya caught sight of him with Melissa and she yelled at the other girl to get back. Melissa left the two together. Eric kind of wished that she hadn't.
Maya placed herself onto him like they were a couple. She didn't seem to notice him reclining at her touch. His body wasn't meant to be hers. She talked to him a little, calling him baby and other terms of endearment. Eric tried not to cringe at it. He needed to confront Rex. Sunday evening, Aiden said. Looks like Eric will be doing a bit of stalking this weekend.
