The Cheating Triangle

Chapter 4

The next few weeks, Eric made an attempt to know more about Melissa and Maya. He chatted with Melissa before school started and he hung out with Maya's friend group during lunch. He didn't really like Hannah, Julie and Isabelle that much, however he did enjoy Thea's company the best. They got close, but Maya would always bring his attention back to her.

As for his time with Melissa, they occasionally hung out after school and even got ice cream one time. But at the end of the day, he didn't feel anything for her. He didn't even consider her as a friend. The connection just wasn't there with her.

Melissa was extremely excited that her crush was hanging out with her. She told everything to Noelle, whom she could confide to her with anything. Noelle was happy for Melissa, but everytime she caught an interaction between Eric and Melissa, she felt that it was forced on Eric's part.

On a Friday afternoon, Eric sat with Hannah, Maya, and Tamala for lunch. Julie and Isabelle were off doing student body president and vice-president business. At one point, Hannah left to go to track down Aaron and Darius.

This left Eric sitting with Thea and Maya, both of whom he was comfortable around. They talked easily, yet Maya kept a possessive hand around his arm, a clear signal to Thea that he's off limits.

Thea didn't mind. She didn't care whether Maya and Eric were dating. There was a rumour going around that Rex, Eric's best friend, was dating Aiden before Eric caught them. It made sense to Thea why he was hanging out with them.

Yet, she also heard from Aiden that Rex was also dating Eric. Nobody believed that, considering that Aiden and Eric always hated each other. Thea had her suspicions though, seeing as a friendship can't possibly end with some controversial dating. Besides, she found it hard to believe that Aiden actually did date Rex, since he's been with YeaYea for a few months now.

The first bell rang mid conversation. Eric's next class was Math, where he had to see Rex. Since he caught Rex cheating on him, there have been no confrontations between him and Rex, however Rex did try to apologise again and again. Things cannot be said the same with Aiden, on the other hand.

Everytime they crossed paths, Aiden made it his business to start picking on a fight with Eric. Most of the time, Eric would ignore him, but he was really close on several occasions. This only annoyed Aiden more, and he tried to tell everyone that Eric is gay.

He entered the classroom, finding that most seats were already full. The only seat that was left open was next to Rex. Eric breathed out an annoyed breath and slowly made his way over to Rex. He passed by Hannah, who was sitting next to Celia, and he tried to get Celia to sit next to Rex but she refused. Eric tried to plead with her, but she put her foot down on the subject and slapped him towards Rex with her ruler.

Begrudgingly, Eric sat next to Rex, an uncomfortable silence drifting over them. This better not turn into an apology hour. He cannot deal with Rex and the bullshit he does and has done. He silently cursed Celia for being so stubborn.
