Eric was by his locker, waiting for Melissa. It was almost the end of the school year, and he decided that he might as well ask someone out. The loneliness was too unbearable for him.
Except he did not expect to see the sight before him. Melissa walked up to him, arms linked with another boy with a deformed head. Well, it wasn't deformed, but it was close to it. Eric tried to recall his name, but nothing came to mind. Luckily, Melissa made the introductions for him.
She introduced the guy to be named Joe and apparently, they've been hanging out together for some time now. It was on Sunday that he asked her to be his girlfriend. That didn't bother Eric. There was always Maya.
When the couple left, he returned to stare into the depths of his locker. As it would have turned out, Melissa was not so much in love with him for accepting Joe. Eric thought he was special to her, but apparently not. He tried not to feel too down about that.
When he closed his locker, he found that Celia was glaring at him across the hallway. Noelle stood next to her, looking unbothered. Did she know about Melissa and Joe? No, that's not right. Melissa started dating Joe yesterday. Noelle possibly couldn't have known that.
But Eric couldn't be concerned with that right now. Celia was approaching him, looking quite angry. What did he do to feel her wrath?
Celia punched him in the face. He stumbled, clutching the spot that she punched. He was not expecting that.
"That's for breaking the heart of the most beautiful, sweetest, angelic girl in the world." Was she talking about Melissa? (Was actually what my bestie said.)
A small crowd started to form. How could he defuse the situation? Rex wasn't here to help him. Just the thought of the traitor made his heart ache. Noelle won't be of much help. She's too quiet for people to actually listen. Who else is there in this crowd?
Eric searched frantically for someone to help him. His eyes caught Thea and Harriet, who were walking by, observing the crowd.
"I met Melody, and you were a total-" Celia stopped herself from saying more. Eric was sure she was about to call him some names. So that was who she was talking about.
Instead of feeling sad, he felt angry. How dare Celia utter Melody's name like that. She has no rights to use his ex against him. And how was she even able to find Melody? Eric hasn't seen her since they broke up.
Thea and Harriet pushed through the crowd.
"Woah there, calm down Celia. What's gotten into you?" Thea asked.
Before anyone could respond, the bell rang, signaling five minutes until class. Noelle grabbed hold of Celia's arm and whispered something in her ear, probably that they should get going.
To his relief, Celia turned away to get going, but not before she sent him on final death glare. The meaning was perfectly clear, I'll be back for you.
The crowd started to disperse and both Thea and Harriet looked at him as though he owed them an explanation. He told them that he will tell them later. Right now, he just wanted to get to class and forget about the morning.
