The next morning, Lu Yao opened his eyes and stared at the unfamiliar room for a while before he could gather his thoughts. After a moment, he remembered that they had moved to town and quickly got up to get dressed. There were many things to do today.

First, he started the fire; the house was too cold. Lu Yao shivered as he got off the bed.

He cleaned the pot, filled it with fresh water, and heated it. Using a ladle, he splashed some water on his face at the door. The lack of a basin made everything very inconvenient. After washing up, he put millet into the pot; breakfast would be millet porridge again.

Outside, Zhao Beichuan was feeding the donkey. The courtyard snow had been cleared, and the firewood delivered by Brother Liu was neatly stacked against the wall, far from the house this time.

After breakfast, Lu Yao said, "Later, we'll go to Lujia Village. My mother doesn't know we've moved yet. It's better not to worry her."

"Alright, I also plan to go back and dismantle the old fence to use as firewood."

After eating, they locked the front gate and set off in the donkey cart. Today was the second day of the New Year, and several shops in town were already open.

Passing by the grain shop, they saw Qiu Mo standing at the entrance. Lu Yao waved and greeted him. "Shopkeeper Qiu, may you have prosperity all year round!"

"Brother Zhao, Little Lang, what brings you here so early?"

Zhao Beichuan drove the cart closer. "We rented a shop in Xiasanli and plan to sell tofu after a few days."

"Oh, I'll definitely come and support your business."

After a brief exchange, the donkey cart continued on its way. As they approached Lujia Village, they met Lu Yun and Wang Youtian, who were also visiting their in-laws.

The two families traveled together back to the Lu family home. As soon as the donkey cart stopped at the gate, Lu Lin hurried over to open it.

"You're back! Come in quickly!"

The carts entered the courtyard one by one. Lu's father and Lu's mother came out to welcome them. They were unaware of the fire at the Zhao family's house.

Lu's mother happily led her two sons inside. "I've been looking forward to your return. Your sister-in-law has prepared a table full of dishes. Warm up on the kang, and we'll eat soon."

"Okay." Lu Yao rubbed his hands and climbed onto the kang.

Xiaonian and Xiaodou were taken by Lu Miao to the west room, where they brought out a pile of sugar melons. This year, selling tofu had earned the family a lot of money, and his sister-in-law had taken out a hundred coins specifically to buy snacks for the children.

In the main room, Lu Yao took off his shoes and sat at the head of the kang. The cotton hats and gloves he had made earlier were burned in the fire, leaving his fingers and toes numb from the cold during the journey.

Lu's mother brought in two bowls of ginger sugar water. "Drink this while it's hot to warm up."

Hu Chunrong carried Little Shitou over. "Greet Third Uncle and Fourth Uncle for the New Year."

The little boy knelt on the kang and bowed twice. "Happy New Year, Third Uncle! Happy New Year, Fourth Uncle!"

"Good job." Lu Yao picked him up and pulled out a string of coins from his pocket, handing it to him. Lu Yun also gave him the prepared New Year's money.

"No money, give it back to Third Uncle and Fourth Uncle." Hu Chunrong tried to take the money from her son's hand.

Little Shitou held onto the coins tightly and cried when she tried to pry them away.
